So interesting conversation this morning over our breakfast meeting (when my team should have been working !!) !!! Is it possible to protect you finances ahead of an upcoming wedding ?

Basically I have a guy who works with us who is getting married, he's probably got assets of c. £4m and current girlfriend has nothing a small amount of cash but nothing by comparison.

So I know there are prenups but I am not sure if they are worth the paper they are written on etc etc

So any advice ?

Ps his girlfriend isn't an internet bride or 20 years his junior .... and no photos !!!!

Well he's pretty sure he wants to marry and if kids come along then its fair game !!

However I can see from his point that loosing half his wealth is not terribly attractive !!!

Thanks for ALL !! the replies .... very interesting reading.

Just to put the record straight a little, he's not really going into it thinking about it failing and he's sure its the right girl. He's in his 40's and she's in her 30's so both grown up and rational people.

He's more than happy ... if anything went wrong to give a chunk away.

The main concern is he's got another 10 years work in him and doesn't want to loose all he;'s accumulated at a point where he cant earn some of it back.

He's not really mentioned the money side but the rest of the team ( all blokes !!) may have been winding him up .... a little !!! :-)

Thanks

Phib

That looks to be exactly what he is saying
And 50 : 50 would be fine what he's now panicking about is 80 :20 or 90 : 10
