Reports of falling snow on Yorkshire Dales, Lake District and Snowdonia last night. That's spectacularly early.

Blimey. That is early for the dales. I’m on the eastern edge, chilly (lows around 3/4) and cloudy, but nothing resembling snow yet.

Cold front passing tomorrow, mind.

Where are they reporting the snow?
Falling, not lying! Was reported on radar.

Express/Exactaweather/Nathan Rao so almost certainly horest and more likely to mean a warm wet winter...
He normally predicts 100 days of winter, this year only 50. That's global warming for you.

How lovely it has been this last few days, more rain than the whole summer it seems.

As for winter predictions, having looked at the tea leaves and imagined what bit of dried out seaweed on the stick might look like...

With no knowledge or evidence at all, I reckon we are in for a repeated onslaught of Atlantic lows and a bit of fog in November.
That's what I'd expect too. Let's see what happens!

Plenty of tropical storms in the Atlantic again at the moment too. Always adds a bit more fun when they hitch a ride on the jet stream.

High pressure continues to dominate for foreseeable future. Misty and murky, not much rain. Low pressure in the Atlantic might occasionally affect NI/W Scotland more.

Is this because cold air and low pressure is shoving the Jetstream down around Western America, meaning it bounces up above us for now?

The south side of the Jetstream is the best side?
Jet stream is always buckling. One of the problems for us is the polar vortex normally sits in the NW Atlantic and helps drive it directly at us.

North of jet stream is normally cooler air. South is warmer. In its path means low pressure conveyor belt. Low pressure tends to get more severe when it's caught in the jet stream.

Cold blast looking increasingly likely for next weekend, with the high pressure lying to our west on a north/south axis - a northerly wind in the offing.

I'm off to Aberdeenshire tomorrow, in the hunt for cold wink

As currently forecast, there could be widespread snow in northern parts of Scotland including Aberdeenshire next weekend.

Snow also forecast in the SE (mainly Kent) next Monday.

Things will change though.

Still on for Monday in the South! Blue to green is rain forecast. Pink to purple is snow. As rain is forecast next to snow, it's a she bet that any snow would be wet and short lived.

This was on the ferry from St Mawes to Falmouth on Monday. Staying down here for a half term and the weather has been mid to high teens everyday.
And it all ends now!

As before - northern Scotland and Aberdeenshire most likely to see quite widespread snow. It may appear in other places, but fleetingly and wet.

It will be shockingly cold this weekend in all places.

Increasing signs of SSW during November. This would keep the weather pattern going with high pressure over Scandinavia.
