All the kids in secondary schools seem to have iphone's. These things are not cheap, why do parents give in?

My 2 daughters had a meltdown the other week. They both want new iphone 7's for Christmas. I informed them santa wont be buying £900 of phones. They are 12&14. Some of the kids in their class have contract iphones, these same parents rent houses and lease the latest cars. They dont own jack st. I suggested id buy a brand new Moto G or similar, that went down well! It HAS to have the apple badge on apparently. They have had 2nd hand iphone 5's in the past but they break and are usually bought off ebay and are already knackered or they get old iphones off family members, which are equally broken. Or they drop them and break them. They refuse to have a case as it isnt cool.

I watched the BBC program School last night. We are bringing up a nation of fairies who have tantrums when they cant get their own way. My 14 year old tells me she needs a 7s as she is preparing for her GCSE's in 2 years time. It's all bks, the 5s she has is broken, mainly because she mistreats it. Her friend had a 6 when they were new and launched it up the wall in a rage.

Ive told her if and when she gets a new phone then it will need to go in a survivor case and only a survivor. She said fine. But I know full well she will take it out. So I'll consider no more nailing it together.
I suggested she put her birthday money(£160) towards the phone which is £450 and any Christmas money, then I might consider it. She turned her nose up at this as she wants to buy clothes with it.

On a different point, ive just got my mum a Honor phone, cant think of the model but it was £160 and it's great. As good as any Iphone and certainly a lot better than an ageing 6s!

The point of renting was that 2 of her friends have parents who prioritise material items over anything else. The kids and them have all the latest gadgets, clothes, these Yeezy trainers at £300 a pop yet always complain that they cant afford to buy a house and how expensive renting is. If you stopped buying all this st and saved your money then you might be able to afford somewhere and stop throwing your money away.

Also to add, one of these same parents has decided to home school her 14 year old after she refuses to go to school. The child is a little brat in my eyes.
