The guy that sits facing me in the office at work was found dead by his parents in his home yesterday.
I've only known him about 5 months but liked him very much and looked forward every morning to him coming in, sense of humour etc.
We were wondering if he had booked a few days off for Easter as he hadn't turned in on Monday.
Wish I'd answered his phone as its been ranging out the last days but it was out of reach.

Don't know what happened.
Terribly sad for his parents.

Sat looking at his private bits an pieces on his desk. frown
Goodbye Rob, 39 is far too young.

Thanks all for the comments and advice.
Don't know about counselling here, as a contractor I tend to try and look after myself.
He had a lot of friends here and very well liked so its affected quite a few people.

The strongest emotion is as to how he passed away.
We don't know if he died in bed in his sleep, fell or was it self inflicted?
Just don't like the thought that he lay injured. The risk of living alone.

As I mentioned, terrible for his parents.
They had travelled to his home as they were unable to contact him.

I had similar a while back - close colleague, a mate, dropped down dead one weekend. In his 40s.

The next couple of weeks you’ll have those times when you find something funny / interesting and think oh yeah Rob will like to hear about that.

Bit st really ain’t it.
Yes.
I working but at the same time I'm sat here looking under his monitors at his Clementine's, his Tabasco Sauce, his pot of black pepper...........
His mates in his football team are in for a shock too.

This afternoon 2 young women came to Rob's desk.
They carefully went through his desk draws looking at all of the paperwork and note pads.
They read every post-it on his, not so tidy, desk and put them back exactly as they found them, including where something was sat on top???
The post-it that's half on his desk and half on mine is back in exactly the same position as before!
Very cold, very strange.

Thanks to all for the support and advice.

Back in the Office yesterday following Easter.
Rob's gear's all over his desk still.

Why do I find it disturbing? I guess its because its reminding me of him every time I take my eyes off the screen.
I feel I want someone to clear it but I know when they do, I'll feel guilty because he's then gone for ever.
My colleague to my right has the same emotion.
We decided to turn his name plaque around yesterday as it was facing us with his picture.
Feel bad about that today. frown

His Easy Peelers are starting to wrinkle.

I’m not saying don’t be upset but take matters into your own hands, contractor or not you are being directly affected so do something
Understand your point and yes, I should go to HR or the Office Manager.
My dilemma is simply that I liked the guy and if I request that they clear his desk then it will be a case of 'that's that', move on and start to forget.
I'm not quite ready for that yet. His personal bits are keeping the recent memories very clear.

I'm personally not touching any off his stuff simply because of what happened last week with the 'visitors' going through all of his paperwork, Post-it's etc., and then leaving as was.
I'll let the wheels turn at their own pace and deal with it.

Cheers.

OP, reading your posts on this thread you come across as a caring and decent chap smile
Thank you.

Its Rob's funeral Thursday next week.
I was checking my phone for a photo only 5 minutes ago and the first one on the screen was of Rob's head popping up over the top of his monitor.
Made me smile. Shall miss him.

The feedback we had was that the Autopsy was inconclusive and that they are waiting for toxicology results?

His desk is still untouched which is now a little 'incorrect' in my eyes.
It no-longer affects me and had become less so over the days and I moved desk this morning. However, there are quite a few personal items that should be packed up and returned to his family.

Going through some documents at work last week and found a slip of paper mixed in with them.
It was a short list of jokes Rob had told the week before he died.
All really stupid ones like;
'How do you through Welsh cheese?'
.......................................................................................Carefully.

'Man through a block of butter at me in the supermarket today'
.......................................................................................How dare he.

etc., etc.

The latest I heard on what had happened was that his parents found him in the bath.
I recall him saying that he had Epilepsy.
I've not heard the official cause but assume he drowned.
How sad for the parents.

My daughter has Epilepsy which is why there are only showers in our home.
