So it's seemingly taken over abit from Gumtree as the place to sell? Isay that as all the Muppets seem to have gone from Gumtree to FB..

I've sold a number of items on FB and had countless idiots offering peanuts, asking me to travel 200miles to meet them (one said she'd meet me at Kings Cross and could I get the train down/make a weekend of it?

One bloke posted on my Brompton for sale that he could tell me all about my bike and that it didn't have the right brakes or gear shifter and it'd cost me £500 to get it upto the right level of spec.

I said are you interested in the bike? No he wasn't. Just being helpful apparently?!

One bloke has messaged me non stop even after I marked the item has sold. He'd turned up said yes it looks exactly as you described but I've got loads to see. And left. Then two days later hammered me with messages with one saying you were holding it for me.

Sold two cars on there.

Quick, easy and free.

But as with anything, experiences will vary person to person!
I've had "how many gears is it"? It says on the ad.

"Are you the first owner"? No does that really matter on a bicycle?

Another angle I have received. I posted collect only due to hassle and weight.

Say the price was a very keen £600.

I received numerous variations of "can you post and I'll pay you £600 all in".

Another stated this and said "it should only cost you £60 to post to the US for me." He even sent me a screenshot of a typical postal shipment cart checkout cost.

And again. I've advertised a highish end kids bike for a low price with 'scratches and marks in keeping with use'.

Guy turns up and makes excuses. Typically secondhand buyers of Islabikes and Frog's want mint condition so they can sell on for no loss after they've finished with it.

My sons bike had a couple of scratches on the top tube and some rust on a brake lever control.

I find most buyers want it delivering to their house.

And if you are listing something for £80, they send a message such as "£30 now". God I'll take that, you are doing me such a favour.
It's CASH pal and I'll come round now for it, ok?

Ok?

You've not replied?

Don't be rude pal

What do you mean you won't accept it

It's all I can afford, come on. CASH now for it

Absolutely this, it works the other way around too. We bought a shed of a car off FB, my missus had arranged it, geezer called Piotr, I thought to myself 'This is going to be dodgy as fk'

Turned up to view the car, nicest guy you could ever meet, he'd done loads of work on the car himself, and had taken great pride in presenting it for sale, cleaned it properly etc, gave him the £500 he wanted for it, drove off 15 mins later, worth every penny, he was made up. It hasn't missed a beat in 12 months, we've just put petrol in it, not spent a single penny on anything else.
Polish people over here for the main are scared of Police involvement. Yes there are some bad types but alot are fearful of the Police turning up.

That's how she sources her stock laugh

TBH that's probably how alot of eBay and Gumtree resellers source, offer crazy low and someone somewhere wants rid or is battling repossession.

I've bought 4 cheap old german cars from poles and they have all been exactly as described, and very well looked after, The last one I was talking to the guy and he said back home those cars would still have strong second hand value and as such would be properly looked after to keep them going a long time. Also that they get strong discount from polish mechanics, and polish mechanics are more biased towards working out economical repairs instead of scattergun parts swapping. Makes sense.
I have found fb marketplace a great place to buy broken motorbikes very cheap.
How do you spot the broken ones apart from spares or repair wording

Darn that'd be great for my sons bedroom/gaming chair etc.

I sold a bike recently on fb. Strictly collect only as I didn't want the hassle of finding a bile shop, packing, organising etc etc. Ad was clear. Soooo..

Bod messages me 'still for sale pal'?

I'm really interested, need if posting though. Can you do it for (selling price) including Post- Post would be £50 alone.

All these messages (3) were sent within an hour. I viewed but didn't reply.

Next thing...I've got some sort of feedback on my profile saying doesn't respond.

Don't get excited about the sofa!

I was selling for decent pennies a sofa, fridge freezer etc.

All I got was can you deliver as I'm a single mum. One of them was a bloke saying that (apperently for his friend).

Another said on the way. I asked if he had a roof rack or car big enough.....

He asked if I could deliver.

What I've found with large items is unless it is G plan, really interesting piece of furniture you'll get the I'm a single unemployed mum of 15 kids can you deliver for £5 for it.

I saw a post on my local page about old stereo equipment and offered my B&O for free. Even delivered it to him as he's just down the road and it's a heavy old thing. Get to the door and a nice elderly gent opens the door. His son (the one I was dropping it off for) shouts from a back room "He's not supposed to be here til 7, I've just got back from work!". Sounded really pissed off.
By the time I got home I receive a message which I assume is an apology for him being rude but..."have you got the remote?".
No doubt he's selling it on.

My wife wants me to sell my B&O 4000 tv/dvd. I don't want to and definitely not give it away. Are they worth anything?

I don't reply to

"Is this still available"

But then if I don't it's followed by

"?"

"Look pal are you selling"

This week I've had low ball offers, "I'll come now ok" in working hours. Then disappointment and vanishes when I say I can't do RIGHT NOW.

I listed a bicycle where the forks alone are 1.2k, frame is 1.7k new etc etc yet I still received ridiculous offers then pressing for an answer when I clearly said sorry I won't reply to an offer.

In the end I've pulled it as its starting to become distracting replying to people.

Dog Star, I share your hatred of text speak, however its not unusual for people to pick FB Marketplace/Ebay/Gumtree stuff up en route, or even to get a friend in the area to collect. I live in the South of England, yet have had relatives in Scotland collect things for me, which I then get from them as and when.

It's very lazy. It shows that with all probability someone who opens with that doesn't reply anything else or switches into time-wasting mode.

Had to get rid of my wifes car, 16 years old had it from new, but been sorn for 2 years as she bought a new one. She did want it on FB , but I really dont want the hassle, so called up a scrapper to collect it, shame as it drove perfectly. Same thing, cleared out my cupboards this week, PS3, digital cameras etc just chucked in it the bin for same reasons. I can't be doing with the public to be honest. Once sold a quinny pushchair, even put new tyres and inner tubes on it, the seller got it home and complained about something and accused us of ripping off poor people and wanted money off, my wife said fine it you don't want it bring it back for a full refund, they didnt of course.
Because whole generations now are used to bring given stuff, property money etc and if they want something changing they complain and it normally works.

They buy up stuff to sell/stick in crafters etc to send back to Europe to sell.

Some enterprising people out there.

I've dealt with Eastern Europeans who don't mess about, if they want something they are coming!

Tubeless?

I'd be sceptical buying tubeless used.

OK I'm selling a few things. I received a message on a watch listing asking about my bike (I presume) so replied. The text was bizarre along with asking for my address..

So I said sold.

The last reply was about 10 crying face emoji
