Christopher Hitchens said the four most overrated things in life were:

Picnics
Lobster
Champagne
Anal sex.

I am only asking for everyone's top three, and I will start with mine:

Monte Carlo
Complicated females
The Rolling Stones.

Let's hear them, everyone!

I knew when I started this thread that at least one person would nominate the Beatles. I encounter this in the real world from time to time in my job as a musician. I suspect for some it's done because they are trying to be 'different'.

Anyway, it always amazes me, every time. Everyone has their own personal taste, and we all understand that, but the sheer level of musical ignorance required to consider the Beatles overrated is remarkable.

You need to find a better chippy!

It's funny that women get paid more prize money than men at Wimbledon but everyone wants to watch the gents final.
They don't but they play less sets for the same money.
But they are happy to play 5 sets, the tournament organisers just can't schedule the time.
And we would all die of boredom.

I though Yorkshire had a reputation as being a pretty miserable place to be, how bad are you saying it really is?
I've had a couple of holidays in Yorkshire and thought it was lovely there.

I am quite a big coffee fan and my favourite is Blue Mountain which I buy in Jamaica.

I think Nespresso is very good though, not as good as Blue Mountain but certainly a big step up from Costa, Starbucks and the like.

Good coffee, good beer appreciation is ‘snobby’ according to your post, unless I’ve read it wrong?

My main 3 , are

I've just been listening to the remastered 'Let it Be' recording.

It's one thing to simply 'not like' The Beatles. That merely demonstrates a complete lack of musical taste.

But, to consider them 'overrated'?

Weapons-grade ignorance.

Thanks beer

Yes, it's the sheer incorrectness of saying they are 'overrated' that grates with me because the different level they were operating at (particularly later on) makes that ridiculous, frankly.

I play music for a living and do many of the same songs night after night, and I am still awestruck by many of the Beatles tunes I do, even after over 7,000 gigs.

Never heard of them, probably not have most people. Suspect they won't share even 1000th the level of success, despite probably being 99% as good, which is why I think all successful musicians are over rated.
What you are missing here is the writing of the material is the genius part.

I had to scroll up to see to whom you were referring. I thought for a moment it was the Beatles rofl - which would have had some posters here getting all gammony (as apparently they are the literal heirs to JS Bach or something
You've (inadvertently) put it quite well there actually. From perhaps 1965 onwards, they were very much successors to the great earlier composers in terms of experimentation and pursuing new ideas musically.

Given your tone, I have a sneaking suspicion that appreciating this might be over a little your head though!
