Thanks to S100HP for the nudge - and it's true, there is snow on Cairngorm!

The title has never been more apt... During the day it's become clear that ex-Hurricane Lorenzo will reach a point west of Northern Ireland on Thursday night and then turn sharply and aim at the Midlands. This is caused by a high pressure block between Scandinavia and Greenland.

Charts show it will rapidly lose power as it heads east - but not sure on rainfall levels at this point.

Earliest UK snow falls, not thread opening wink

2018 - Sept 20th
2017 - Sept 14th (thread opened earlier than that due to a big storm)
2016 - Oct 17th (after a false start of thread)
2015 - Oct 23rd (another false start!)

Predicted track of Lorenzo shows it straight over the top of me. But forecast says bit of rain, little wind.
I would trust the man made images I posted over a computerised single-model forecast.

It does look like it loses power rapidly as it turns east. I maintain rain may be far more of an issue than wind.

My boss will be trying to fly home from Dublin on Thursday night hehe

Been a few years since I even remembered these threads. Was it Puggit or Schmalex who used to talk about his boiler all the time hehe

Waiting on the winds picking up this morning and feeling sorry for the poor buggers in front of me ready to board a ship across the Irish sea.
It's Schmalex - he lives in the wilds of West Berks - I live in the more civilised parts hehe

I'm patiently waiting for that snap-frost that makes all the trees drop leaves overnight - you close the curtains on a bushy great plant, then open them to see twiggy.

I suspect Lorenzo might have a say in leaf drop!

Various papers predicting a brutal winter and snow event after snow event.

Obviously a load of horse manure.

I'm in Glasgow. It's sunny...

There is a very large blob heading in to the SE on the radar.

Colin's fault...

Keep an eye on the weather in Scotland for Friday. GFS is insisting on heavy snow from the borders up to around Aviemore, including the central belt.

I'd be inclined to bin it usually, but it's so insistent...

I'd anticipate the settling snow to be confined to the hills. Snow at low levels in October is extremely rare (but did happen in 2010!).

Models firming up on Friday and it's shaping up to be thoroughly unpleasant.

Heavy rain across wide areas and up to 60mph winds across most of southern/mid England as it stands.

We have a 3 hour drive irked

As per this tweet - https://twitter.com/UKWX_/status/11873311368565104...

Heavy rain for Devon/Cornwall, Wales, Midlands, Lancs/Yorkshire.

Gales for same area, and everything to the south, and northern Scotland.

Tomorrow is nasty.

Snow reported at lower levels in Aberdeenshire.

Facebook reminds me that 2 years ago we were on the beach in t-shirts in Devon!
