Hoping this is ok in the Lounge. It's not TV, Film, Streaming or Radio which is the other place I considered posting it.

Now we're allowed out again I've been trying to catch up on some live Stand-up. I saw Seann Walsh absolutely smashing a show in Leeds earlier in the year, I'm going to see Dan Nightingale et al on Friday night and have booked tickets for Adam Rowe's new tour in February. Others I've seen fairly recently and would recommend are Justin Moorhouse, Jeff Innocent and Tez Ilyas.

Anyone else in to their live comedy? Got any recommendations?

I saw Jason Manford at the London Palladium earlier this month, as part of his tour.

Very good.
I had tickets to warm-up gig for that in a 150-seater room but it got moved due to some covid situation or other. Gutted I couldn't make the re-scheduled date. I've seen Manford once before at a corporate and he absolutely hoofed it out of the park.

Adam Rowe addressed it really well in his last tour. He dance don the line of acceptability very well. Look up "Adam Rowe: Club Comic" on Youtube.

I love a bit of live comedy. I've seen ; Billy Connolly (3 times - GOAT), Bill Bailey, Dara O'Briain, Michael McIntyre, Frankie Boyle, John Bishop, Kevin Bridges, Rob Brydon, Chris Ramsey (who I'm going to see again this weekend). Some were better than others, but I've enjoyed them all.
I would've LOVED to see Billy Connolly live. As you rightly say, the GOAT in my opinion.

I forgot to mention earlier on that I've also got a ticket to see Chris Ramsay in a few weeks' time. I've been to Karl Hutchinson's last couple of tours and found him quite good although he did recycle some of his bits which was a touch disappointing as I'd expect a new hour for a new tour.

I saw Lee Evans at the O2 (work at the time had a box) on what I believe was his last big tour. I loved some of his early stuff but I didn't crack a smile once that night. He was ste. Seemed more interested in talking about the environment and climate change than making the audience laugh.

I'm no climate change denier; it's a very important topic but it wasn't his job to put on a lecture.

Dan Nightingale's 20 minutes et on Friday night was excellent as expected. I was really pleasantly surprised with how good Eddy Brimson was too. He did a couple of excellent bits about (for want of a better description) wokeism and people taking offence on others' behalf. If that's your bag and he's on near you, go and see him.

Saw Chris Ramsey in Halifax on Sunday. A very enjoyable show. I was a little concerned that he may have to tone things down a bit to avoid offending the significant number of oldies who had bought tickets on the back of his appearances on the dancing show but there was no sign of that.

Carl Hutchinson was very good in support. I probably laughed harder at one or two of his bits than any of Ramsey's set. I've been to his last two tour shows so I'll probably go to his next one too.

I hear a lot about the genius of some American comics but I very rarely find them any good. I know I'm in the minority as people like Burr, Kevin Hart et al sell a lot of tickets over here but for me, stand-up needs to be relatable and I just don't get a lot of their cultural references. I'll give Bill Burr another go though; I've only tried watching one of his specials and maybe I wasn't in the right mood for it.

That sort of gig (although no doubt well paid) must be nightmare for a stand-up.

If you're performing in a comedy club you've got a crowd there who have specifically gone out to see live comedy but at a car meeting you're a sideshow and most of the crowd probably don't give a st about you, what you do or what you have to say.

I may have mentioned further up the thread that Is aw Seann's latest tour show earlier this year and I was literally aching from laughing so much. I took a mate who'd never been to live stand-up before and he was equally enthusiastic.

I've recently seen Jamie Hutchinson a couple of times at live events by the Have a Word podcast. He had me in hysterics both times. I'm not sure how much of that was down to the conversational style of the format in which he dropped numerous hilarious anecdotes but I'll definietley look out for him on club bills next year.

Not sure if I've already said this further up the thread but I don't really get most American stand-up.

I know I'm in something of a minority but I find it hard to relate to a lot of their stories so they don't really trigger any laughter for me. guess that's why, despite the fact that a lot of his stuff is pretty basic, Peter Kay has been so successful. Mums buying st cola and friends of the family being called "Auntie" is something we can all relate to. Each to their own though.

Bit of a thread resurrection here.

Recent shows I've been to include:

- Maisie Adam & Tez Ilyas. I've seen Tez a few times and he's one of my favourite comics. Maisie Adam was better than I expected so I'll look out for her when she's in the area again.

- Adam Rowe supported by Thomas Green, both of whom were excellent.

- Chris Washington & Liam Farrelly. Liam was late replacement for Paul McCaffrey. I'd not heard of him before but he was really, really good. Only 22 years old and has a big future judging by his performance so I'd recommend going to see him if you can.

I enjoyed Partridge too.

A friend had seen him in Manchester the previous week and was very disappointed but I don't really know what more you could expect of that character in a stage show.

My only gripe was that even though my politics are fairly well-aligned to Steve Coogan's, he let too many of his own views creep into the show rather than staying true to Partridge who I always view as an uber-Tory. Partridge would be a Mail reading, obsequious Johnson apologist, despairing at the "weakness" of the centre and the left but there were several gags at the expense of the Johnson clique in the show.

For me a lot of what I find funny is stuff to which I can directly relate. That's why I don't tend to find most American stand-up particularly enjoyable despite the huge success of the likes of Kevin Hart, Dave Chapelle et al.

As a bloke I find it harder to relate to women but that doesn't mean women aren't funny; It just means I'm less likely to find them funny. I would guess that the same could be said for a lot of us.

Woke is nowhere near killing standup (and I consider myself centre left).

If you consume all your comedy on mainstream terrestrial TV there'll be a lot of editorial influence but I think the amount of followers that comics are getting on podcasts, youtube etc. is starting to have an impact on TV as producers and editors see that audiences still like their comedyto dance on the line of acceptability.

Quoting my own post here (I've changed name) but I thought it was worth a bump having seen Dan Nightingale's tour sow last night in Leeds. It was probably the best hour of comedy I've ever seen. His delivery, pace, intonation and expression was masterful. Absolutely brilliant.
