Seems a bit daft to open the thread up just as we head for Indian Summer conditions (in the south), but the snow has finally arrived in the Cairngorms. There were some dustings a couple of weeks ago, but here is the real thing...

There was a weather warning for the south coast smile

On that note - South and Midlands could see isolated tornado activity today...

Epic downpour just north of Reading yesterday around lunchtime, with added hailstones. Real proper job.
As usual it split around Burghfield irked

Wife went to Little London in the evening and reported remnants of hail still on the ground.

They’re back now and far less concerned about the snow in rural Aberdeenshire.
They'll get caught out then - UK snow is very different to North American snow on the plains. There it's so far below zero that the snow is powder, here it is close to zero so the snow often thaws a little and refreezes. Much harder to clear, much more slippery.

20.7 degrees in Porthmadog today (NW Wales).

Was in Bristol yesterday and it was a balmy 19. Lovely.

Wonder if I'll manage to wash my car this weekend now.
Patio is desperate for a scrub - but I'm off away this weekend.

However, short cool period incoming - https://twitter.com/Met4CastUK/status/159535593528...

Here you go - the warmth is actually FAR more notable than the rain (still a week to keep topping up the rain total):

Another stat: London Heathrow has seen nearly 12 times more rain than November 2021. 116.8mm vs 10.2mm. The driest in series from 1948 to one of wettest. Our wettest November… 2009 with 148mm

Really nasty squall line is about to start crossing west to east - a brief period of very nasty weather as it crosses. Strong winds, hail, driving rain and even a possibility of a tornado.

Blocking high pressure on the way - unlikely to lead to real cold, but dry weather a certainty.

Some exciting charts cropping up... Strong signal for a Greenland high in 10-12 days. People are saying shades of 2010.

Currently away in Brussels, dodging the riots - will struggle to update for a few days and it will probably have vanished by then.

10 day 'snow on the ground' charts showing lying snow for most of UK. Aberdeenshire and Geordieland seem to be the sweetspot.

First snow forecast porn... You can see the strong high pressure over Greenland and the long stretch of Arctic air hitting the UK. Nothing certain at this point, cool air is highly likely - cold and snow is not, at this point.

Greenland highs are the holy grail - that's what brought around 2010... We're 8 days out...

This is a new Snowlercoaster. It's bigger and better.

And if it breaks down, the sorrow will be greater.

Are the tickets the usual?
- No guarantees.
- No refunds.
- No statutory rights.
If so, I will have one first class please and hang the expense.
You sir, are booked in. Someone that understands that this journey usually fails to end!

On that note, some minor downgrades overnight. But as usual, trying to forecast something like this at 8 days out is a fool's errand.
