calf muscle/tendon insertion

Apologies if this seems a bit esoteric but I'm curious to know what people here consider to be "long" or "short" calf muscles. Would you take, say, the halfway point between the base of the foot and the top of the knee joint (when seated) as the divide between a high or low insertion point for the gastros? Or between ankle bone and knee, or some other guide?
