I have to give a Best Man speech to 120 guests next weekend. I never have to speak publicly as part of my job and as a result, I'm rather nervous at the prospect! It's been playing on my mind for awhile and I know it'll be at the forefront of my conscious a few days before the big day, let alone during the meal after the ceremony!

I've read a few bits and pieces that attempt to comfort; It's not the end of the world ... It's a small part of the Wedding ... Everyone is routing for you ... However I bet by the time the Father of the Bride and Groom has spoken, my heart will be racing and I'll be sweating.

So I was thinking of having a hypnotherapy session to combat my nervousness on the day. My Mum had similar, again for nerves, before a driving test and she said it really helped. Has anyone else undergone hypnotherapy and did it work for you?

ETA: Excuse poor grammar ... I was in a rush!

Yep. I did the same for my grooms speech. Hoofy on here is the one to talk to.
Did it work for you? Did you feel less nervous when delivering your speech?

I know Hoofy; He has a similar watch affliction to myself hehe

shout Hoofy!

Well, it's one approach. It can work if you are open to the possibility but if you are convinced it's as good as a power plate machine then you're screwed!
I'm pretty open minded, so I'd like to think it'll work for me ... The way I see it, if it doesn't, I haven't lost anything other than ~£60. If it does work, job jobbed! smile

Try imagining them naked. Not good if you have a very high sex drive as you'll be remembered as The Best Man With The Erection.
Yeah, I think I'll give that technique a miss! hehe

Do it, my friend, you'll be calm, confident, and in control!
Awesome! I've just booked a 90 minute session this Friday ... smile The speech is on Saturday, so I'll report back as to how it goes and whether I felt the hypnotherapy session did the trick!

Well, all I can say is that Saturday and Sunday went by fast! My speech, according to others, was excellent and supposedly I didn't look nervous at all. I have to admit though, I still was pretty nervous. As such, I'm not entirely sure if the hypnotherapy worked, or whether I just stood up and 'dealt with it' as I had no other choice.

However it was pretty good to sit down and talk to someone about what was making me nervous. The hypnotherapy session was incredibly relaxing too smile Would I do it again? Hmmm, probably not. Still, even if it helped a bit, it was worth the cash smile

Glad it went well. As to whether it helped, if you didn't panic then it helped. With such things, it's not like you get a massive neon sign with a loudspeaker going "Whoop! Whoop! Hypnotherapy function kicking in!"
