After smashing my accetablum mountain biking six years ago aged 24 and limping round like an arthritic octogerian for the past 2 years I am getting a nice shiny new ceramic and plastic THR on December the 4th.

I am slightly nervous and excited about what’s going to happen and the outcome, my consultant is not sure whether due to my bone structure in my femur if he will use a cemented or non cemented stem?

So I thought I would stick a post up and I will try to keep it updated and I will stick some pics up of my x-ray once I am nailed together.

the one benefit of the timing is my O/H will have to chauffer me round all Christmas!

The OP has been moved to Tuesday, so woo I think. I'm signing in at 7am. I'm hoping to be home on but we shall see.

Its getting done at Wrightington Hospital near Wigan, they are the people that did the very first replacement by Dr Charnley.

Life span depends on what I do with it and how heavy I am so I need to loose about a stone once its done and I can exercise but avoiding any impacts.

Its a Ceramic on Polyethelene unit thats going in.

I'm now back home and I am glad. Bit sore, swollen and tired but over all very happy.

Can't wait for a dump on my own throne!

Any one suffered from pins and needless on their heal? I've got a small numb spot and an area that's quite tender. I presume it's just a bit of swelling, but it's quite annoying.

Brief update;

I am doing well I can get by on one crutch and limp around with out one round the house. My heel has got a big pressure blister on it which caused the issue mentioned above.

District nurse is coming tomorrow and hopefully that will mean no more wound dressings so I can shower normally.

The one surprise is I've no stitches or staples, just sterie strips and bostik I presume.

I can wander around with out any cripple sticks now. I still have this Feckin huge blister though which is more of an issue than my hip.

I get some back pain which I presume is cos I'm all out of kilter. But all in all its ace.

Well it was 6weeks ago on Tuesday. I've got a few aches still which I presume are the muscles struggling after years of being used to not moving.

I've been out on the bike for a couple of easy rides and taken the dog for a couple of hour walks.

I'm back at work too part time as I cannot drive yet.

I've a follow up on Friday with Mr Shah to see how it is settling in.

my movements better already, but its still tight and I have been loath to push it. However the ability to walk more that 10 yards with out aching is brilliant.

I have a bit of back ache but nothing too major.

I am back on the bike and one thing I have noticed is that I have absolutely no power in it, it makes climbing hard work.

As a treat I bought this:

I've not had any nhs physio offered but saw a private one as a one off.

I'm still stiff and. My lower back can ache but I'm miles better than I was.

Did over 10 miles of mountain biking on Thursday night and felt fine Friday

Fell off my mtb again... It's done me some good as I've been petrified of falling off and hurting myself. Sore shoulder but otherwise spot on...

As I've recently relogged in after years

Update its fantastic. Still mountain biking. Been the Alps a few times and torridon.

Raced strathpuffer as well.

I'm still plagued with an occasional bad back and pins and needles. But over all I'm well happy. Have to see how long it lasts.
