I've had 3 migraines in the last 4 weeks. 2 have come today and yesterday, but seem to have been silent migraines. The one I had 4 weeks ago was a proper full on one, with the headache lasting a week afterwards.

Does anyone else suffer with migraines? Do you get silent ones? The pharmacist advised that I speak with my gp as until 4 weeks ago I had not had a migraine for 9 years and 3 in quick succession sees unusual.

I have been stressed a lot lately, but I've been more stressed in the 9 years since my last one prior to the recent ones. Diet hasn't changed, though it will change as I am attempting to eat healthier now.

I've called my GP, waiting for a telephone call now.

I bought some Sumatriptan yesterday which is supposed to stop a migraine within half an hour, so my next one I will be taking that.

Spoke to a friend who is a GP - he told me ask for a drug called Zolmitriptan.

Tiny little disperable tablets which go under the tongue. Usually within 30 mins of taking one, the symptoms have subsided.
fantastic little drugs, but apparently very expensive - hence why they try and prescribe sumatripan instead (i tried those for 2 years and they only eased things). These new ones actually stop it for me (still feel a crap, but no where near as bad as without them).
I think I might have to ask for them as I'm currently just experiencing another one. Thankfully I am working from home today. 3 in less than 3 weeks. If I knew the trigger then I'd stop doing whatever it is. Just waiting for the headache before taking the sumitripitan.

Has anyone tried this?

Propranolol
Propranolol is a medication traditionally used to treat angina and high blood pressure, but it's also been shown to effectively prevent migraines. It's usually taken every day in tablet form.

Propranolol is unsuitable for people with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and some heart problems. It should be used with caution in people with diabetes.

Side effects of propranolol can include:

cold hands and feet
pins and needles
problems sleeping
tiredness

I've just been prescribed Propranolol. 40mg to be taken twice a day. Hopefully this will help!

The OH has had some success with Botox injections. She's gone from a migraine every 4-6 weeks to one or two a year now.
That is good news for her smile. They're so st to have. I read that episodic migraines like mine weren't suitable for Botox injections, even though I am getting them much more regularly. I am hopeful that this medication helps.

Currently in the throws of one now. I cannot say whether the meds are working or not as it can take several weeks for them to work. I would like them to stop though, please.

It seems to be difficult working out the trigger. I thought that I had worked it out, but seemingly haven't. I thought it was down to having a fizzy drink in the morning, so I have stopped that. I didn't sleep very well last night so it could be that. I was also a little bit (very minor) stressed last night about something but I've been more stressed about things since my last episode.

Thankfully the headache isn't too bad so I can still function and have remained at work. My vision itself is still a bit off but it usually is after a migraine, and I feel quite tired. I am on an early finish (but also on call) today so I'll going home and getting some rest in 3 and a bit hours. Hopefully the propranolol starts working in a few weeks (it says to give it 6 to 8 weeks) otherwise the dosage will need upping.

Having an episode on holiday / driving is something I worry about.

Yeah it's really tough locking down the trigger - I thought full sugar Coca Cola was a definite trigger for years and still don't drink it as i'm worried it will bring one on. I always feel knackered for a while afterwards as well. I'd love to figure out exactly what it is that triggers them for me.
It's a bit mad really, especially as how yours tend to happen when snow boarding, which must really suck. Because yours are do infrequent I wouldn't think it would be worth trying things like beta blockers to prevent them. It's the 9 years of not having one and then the fact that I have had so many in such a short period of time. I hope this isn't what I have to look forward to, even if the last 4 have been much less painful than the first one.

I drink sugar free drinks, but not as much as I used to. I pretty much only drink water during the day, maybe 1 zero sugar drink on an evening and then it's usually just cordial.

Been getting loads recently, 2-3 per week. I seem to only get them if I have a lie in mornings so make sure I'm out of bed by 7.30 every morning - so far so good.
I thought that was a trigger to but then found it wasn't. I would ask your GP about Propanolol.

My cousin has had bad migraines for as long as I can remember, a couple of years ago she tried a gluten free diet and "Bob's your uncle" they disappeared almost completely, certainly worth a try for anybody who's life is being affected.
I really do not know what my trigger is. Every time I get one I haven't done the same things.

Did you get the pain? They're utter ste bags. I am just enjoying one now while at work. Hoping that it is just a silent one, but it is different to the last few silent ones.

Strangely, for the first time I've actually felt a little sick with this migraine.

I haven't needed to take a Sumitriptan yet, the headache hasn't been bad enough.

I think I may need to come off the Propranolol though as I am suffering some of the side affects. I am going to give it a few more days to see how I get on as I have a call with my GP next week to discuss how it has been going.

Having another migraine at the moment. Taken a sumitripitan once I got the aura as it felt like a bad one coming on. 50 mins later I still cannot see properly and the headache is building. Also taken ibuprofen and cocodamol. Sunday ruined.

Currently on my second migraine. I think the sumitripitan has really messed me up. Never felt this bad after a migraine and never experienced a issue with my vision for this long after one.

Do you consistently drink alcohol? Alcohol cab Leach magnesium levels.

No I drink a lot less than I used to. I had a bottle of brew dog nanny state on Saturday evening but that was all. I drink maybe 2 beers a week, much less than I used to. I did have a good drink the weekend before but no migraine.
