Chucking a thread together for those of us on a weight loss mission for 2019. Don't be shy, PH can really help with these things (see the smoking threads and the debt free threads)

I will go first, 6'1 and 109KG, I will weigh myself in KGs as in Motorsport its what we use. I need to be down as close to 80 as possible come end of April as I am in the C1 24 hour race at Silverstone. Being the heaviest guy in the car by a country mile will hurt me as not only am i carry almost 30kg of personal ballast our lightest driver is under 80kg and so we have to have about 10kg (ish) of ballast too meaning I will be carrying an unnecessary 40kg of ballast, the same as an extra tank and a half of fuel!!!

I will be taking the "eat less and move more" approach, weird diets aren't for me, I am a food fan (my wife calls me a feeder as well) so I will aim to cook us better meals with more variety, a couple of books for me to draw ideas from are arriving today. I will keep a diary of all I eat and drink so that I can use it to kick myself if I fall back into bad habits (I LOVE crisps!) so far I have cut all fizzy sugary drinks (used to get through at least two a day, regularly more than that) and replaced them with a Soda Stream and carbonated water (I am now one hydrated dude) I can't however seem to shake the sugar from my coffee, so rather than torture myself with bad tasting coffee I will just drink less of it, I cannot stand any form of sweetner (it just tastes like chemicals) and Aspartame gives me migraines anyway.

I know it is unrealistic to lose almost 30kg in 16 weeks, but I can get as close as possible and there will be other races, if I can be 80kg for the next one, I will be a happy racer smile

Excellent, we have people joining us, always easier when you have someone to bounce stuff off, doesn't matter what it is, a problem shared and all that,(although in this case it cant be halved purely by sharing hehe )

I know that one of my big issues is how late I'm eating my main dinner - even though its normally good does anybody know of any good (healthy!) recipies that I can prepare the night before and ask her to cook while I'm out, bringing dinner time forward by an hour??
What do you normally cook? Cook in batches and freeze?
Can do although without a microwave out (space limited) we're a little bad a remembering to get stuff out - have a load of slow-cooked meals frozen currently which I generally use up at work, mixed with tossed salads/tesco meal deals/sushi.

Good shout on the oats - I love Bircher and it sounds quite similar?
Food wise we are aiming to reduce our portion sizes and try and get away from snacking! I am also trying to remove as many pointless carbs as I can. We are going through a food rotation at the moment, obviously we have all our freezer food that needs to be eaten, some good, some bad, we made up a list of everything in there last night and will use it up the best way we can.

For example, had a left over Bolognese in the freezer for two. This turned into..

Bolognese Pasta Veg Bake

Defrosted the Bolognese, chucked in two bags of frozen veg we had in the freezer, added half the amount of pasta I would usually add (yes it was normal pasta, but we have no wholewheat pasta, wholewheat pasta is terrible hehe ) then fine grated a small amount of cheese, mixed it up and chucked it in the oven, was delicious, we got in two of our 5 a day in one meal, we also invited the boy over for dinner (Mrs geeks son) so we weren't tempted to over feed ourselves on "seconds". Not all frozen meals need a microwave wink

No idea what the calories are there, but I ate about 2/3 of my ordinary portion size and it was pretty darned tasty.
Low sugar too as we don't use premade pasta sauce, just passata and some chilli, garlic, onions, tomatoes and a tiny drizzle of olive oil.

Breakfast yesterday was oatbran with almond and coconut milk (porridge or oatbran made with water sucks) and a drizzle of honey.

Breakfast today was a dry fried egg (78), a small slice of toasted white bread (53) and a couple of scoops of salsa (5) plus a small scrape of spread (10). A nice filling breakfast for 146 cals.
I tend to eat breakfast late and skip lunch, but it I get peckish I will have a banana or an apple.
I will let you know what dinner is once Mrs geeks has chosen it lol.

When I did the C1 4hr at Rockingham I was 20kg heavier than our lightest team member. I’m never going to get to that weight but I’m easily 12kg over what I should be living at and in the heat at Rockingham by Christ I felt it!

I also get called a feeder. The truth being we’re both as bad as each other. One suggests takeaway or hints at it and the other feigns contempt but immediately folds and much gorging ensues. She’s also a cake maker as a job and I have never really protested my role as chief taste tester in the R&D department.

I’m currently 6kg heavier than when we got married on June 1st and 8kg heavier than when we went on our honeymoon at the start of November. I’m also 2 weeks away from delivering a course on nutrition and fitness to a group of young motorsports athletes so all in, it’s a bit disgraceful.

I remember one of these threads from a few years back so shall we run a ledger:

Edit to add:

Ate healthy all day, just shared a 180g bag of Doritos and the remains of a box of shortbread paperbag

Also, haven’t included BMI in the table cause it’s a crock of st

Yesterday was a bad day, I was incredibly busy between phone calls to insurance (big shout out to LV who were superb about my weird living situation), work and having to pop and see my grandparents I only managed 15 minutes of HIIT. Food wise, not too bad but it could have been better, breakfast was alrady covered. Dinner ended up being Shepherds Pie with Broccoli and then Apple and Rhubarb Crumble with Brown Bread Icecream for afters! I only had a very small portion of pudding, but my Grandmother had made both especially for me as a thank you for working on their IT stuff, I couldn't say no.

Today, so far so good, one rasher of streaky bacon grilled with a dry fried egg and a small slice of white bread. Dinner will be whatever is at a 60th birthday party later, hoping to get at least 30 minutes of HIIT in today and see how we go.

Successfully made it four days sugar/ processed food free. Probably placebo but feel much better, no bloating or fullness after meals. Have massively cut down on carbs too, not completely but a lot less than before.

Still lifting heavy. Hit a deadlift PB record yesterday so pleased to see hasn’t impacted in gym. Still think I might be eating a bit much but at least now it’s the good stuff. I’ll take stock after a couple of weeks. I’m hoping that ditching the processed crap, cakes, biscuits, ice cream pizza etc will be enough but we’ll see.

How often is everybody planning on weighing in? Was thinking of weighing myself maybe once a week?
Good work Tim! I have cut as much sugar/carbs as I can out of what eat and drink where I can, that said, I still have a sugar in my coffee (managed to half it from two though)

Weigh in will be on the 9th for me as I started on the 2nd, I think a weekly weigh in will do, so folks, get those cameras ready for the 9th, I would like photographic submissions to keep us all honest smile

WOW! Can't believe how popular this one is proving!

Thanks to Lemming Train for the wiki, I have asked the mods to pin it for us smile

I have loads to add, type and put in here just not had the time, although I will confess to having weighed myself early and seeing 107 on the scales so I am properly excited to weigh in officially tomorrow!

Keep at it everyone.

This BMI calculator was posted in the old thread : https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-43697948

With my height and age entered apparently I need to be 78kgs (12st 4) to be right in the centre of the 'healthy' band at BMI 22. I am currently 110kg (17st 4). frown

Edited by Lemming Train on Tuesday 8th January 16:36
Just tried that BMI calculator. Just to get in to the healthy zone it suggests my weight should be 12st 8lbs. Last time I was that weight I was 12 biggrin
Suggests I need to be 85kg (13st 5lbs).......... GULP!

Is it possible you guys underestimated your starting weight at all? It could be that you aren't fully capturing everything you eat as well.

Speaking of, RE the left over Christmas junk food. We are having people over tonight for a party (Mrs geeks and her colleagues are all being TUPEd and then being made redundant today) the great thing about this is that our left over junk food will disappear tonight as it will be shared around the people coming over (some 15 adults and their children). We are also having "Fat Friday" one last time, guilt free eating for today only, that said, I am not really feeling it so other than some Doritos and white rice with my chili this evening I doubt I will take on much more than normal.

yikes Say goodbye to that 2kg you've worked hard to lose.
Dunno, not so convincedabout that, have burned an extra 3000 calories yesterday and today plus i will be on the stand at Autosport tomorrow all day as well (10+ hours standing and walking). Also like I said, chances are this won't equate to more than a couple of Doritos and some white rather than brown rice!

The “silly app” uses a variety of factors including plenty of research from respected institutes to set a net calories target for safe weight loss.

He didn’t eat because the app told him to, he ate because he found himself feeling very hungry. The app simply told him he had eaten very little which explained the hunger.

Which people translate as "I have 1500 spare calories available to stuff my face with pizza, cakes and ice-cream".
It needs to be a combo of both in reality. I don't use a calorie tracker (I did used to use Lifesum) mainly because its a ballache and telling me stuff that I already know.
