I had the OAZ vaccine on Thuirsday and there has been some side effects, probably worse than I anticipated. I have to say that the side effects would not deter me from having the vaccine.

1. General feeling of being unwell, a bit like flu
2. Aching muscles, especially in my back
3. Feeling cold and shivery.
4. One side of my face was very warm.
5. Complete loss of appetite, others have described this as feeling sick.
6. Pain where the needle went in, this is minor but if you usually sleep just on one side have the other arm injected.
7. Moderate to severe headache

1,2 and 3 were fixed with paracetomol This is now day 3 and apart ftom minor pain on the injection site and loss of appetite all the side effects have gone.

I wasn't using my car but I would not have driven long distances on Days 1 and 2.

My neighbour had no side effects at all, others say that the side effects are worse if you have had Covid, I think I had it in May.

Have to say that the organisation of the site and the entire vaccination process was brilliant as was the ease of use of the website.

Interesting responses, thank you.

In a completely unscientific manner, I would say to anyone who is driving or operating machinery and who has had Covid during the year and who is given the OAZ vaccine then they may want to consider having a day off following the vaccine. Personally, i would not have wanted to drive a PSV or operate machinery on Day One. I appreciate that some of you have had no side effects.

Just read the BBC website on vaccine side effects

They report:

Common reactions that may affect up to one in 10 people and typically get better within days include:

sore arm
headache
chills
tiredness
feeling sick
fever
dizziness
weakness
aching muscles

In my experience they are spot on, not that the side effects would deter me from having something that could save my life, It is just that I would not want risk other peoples lives in driving a bus or a train on Day One

I know nothing at all about healthcare and the complexities of how vaccines work but it is curious to me as to how some people have no side effects and others really notice it.

That's quite bad Wazz, if anyone else goes through something similar than paracetomol worked well for me, it is worth having some in the house if you have a vacc date booked.

I understand why there is no advance warning in respect of how the vaccine might effect you, it would put some people off having the jab, but there are people in certain jobs who should be forewarned.

Now four days since my vaccine and the only remaining issues are long sleep times, very nearly 12 hours a night, plus no appetite at all. The vacc site is still a bit sore but it is no big deal, about the same level of pain as a spot on a teenage face.

Just read that if you've had CV19, you're twice as likely to have side effects. Also, having both doses is potentially quite dangerous. I know they don't give it if you tested positive recently.

You need to login to read this.

I started this thread when I noticed some side effects, They lasted 3 days and went away, a slight pain on the injection site lasted a few days longer but was no big deal.

The primary purpose of the vaccine is to stop the virus from killing you, No side effect can alter that purpose.

It is like having no choice about being a passenger in an out of control car, Anyone who didn't wear a seat belt would be a fool in my opinion, you may not need it but it might save your life.

Must admit, the side effect of a 12 hour sleep was a plus.
