I'm trying to decide whether to admit I'm a wuss and get a 12 kgs KB to start, or man up and go for 16 kgs.
Most online advice suggests men 16-24kgs and women 8-12kgs - but I'm assuming they're referring to fit young types rather than on-again/off-again 58 year old blokes.
I think I'll swallow my pride and start with a 12.

16 or a 24 is best for most- lighter ones become very easy very fast imo!
This is my concern. I suspect I may outgrow the 12 pretty quickly - despite what I said above, although I'm fairly out of touch right now I expect to regain my strength fairly quickly as I have quite a lot of weightlifting experience - though never a 'proper' strongman.
I think it's probably best I start with the 12 to get familiar, then increase as I get better/stronger.
Now I'm struggling to find any of the feckers in stock.
Quite like the look of these, though they're at the upper end price wise.

Struggling to find any in stock anywhere. Even those showing in-stock as Argos aren't available for delivery or collection locally. Helpfully, the website says I can collect from Argos Rugby, which is 100 miles away.
I've placed an order elsewhere for a 16 KG KB which should be here in a couple of weeks. If I can find a reasonably priced 12 KG I'll get one of those too.

Pavel Tsatsouline is the daddy of kettlebell training. Have a look at Enter The Kettlebell on youtube. If you can see through the st humour then it is a very good video at teaching the basics.
Da comrade. I watched that last night.
I've ordered the 16 KG 'Original' KB, just waiting for delivery now...
It's expensive but as it'll probably be a paperweight in six weeks, I got a pretty one.
