We have another 'getting older' thread running.
And yet another weight training thread too.

I fully expect this thread to peter out into nothingness, but it is a thread I almost started a few times over the last year or so, so here goes anyway.

Is anyone else man enough to start, and/or anyone else be keen seriously pursuing, an online challenge as such, in which we get ourselves in shape. I work from home, dont really have time to trek to the gym and back regularly but do have a little time to work out from home.

I dont play any sports, find it hard to motivate myself, and have no local friends who are (currently) into working out.

I flit between buying healthy low fat foods, and then binging. My main problem is sticking power and not being able to motivate myself, by myself, to achieve the changes I want to achieve.

Not sure how to say this without sounding like a gayer, but how about a photo challenge for 6 months to start with. One photo a month (mid section/shoulders) and a thread or perhaps private forum in which we learn from and encourage each other. I could knock up a dedicated website/forum if the consensus was to keep this a private affair.

I dont have a brother or best friend who would drag me down the gym regularly, do find it hard to motivate, imagine we'd benefit being part of a group effort, dont have time to go to the gym (etc) and at this particular moment in time this seems like a good idea.

It did take a bit of balls to post, so keep the thread serious/sensible. What say ye?
Who might be up for it?

please dear God, spare me from the tumbleweed

I'd rather not be posting photos though- a photo can look different depending on angle, I would post measurements and weight smile
Actually that sounds like a much better idea biggrin No pictures then, just measurements, we just need to decide what is being measured. (Do girls measure their Chest wobble)

  • We'd just need to assign a start date not less than one week from now
  • Decide on what is being measured. Not sure, but Id guess waistline, biceps and chest? Most probably, not everyone will be seeking to build muscle (I would be) rather just loose a bit of weight. I assume waistline is measured around the belly button?
  • Tabulate up a list of candidates type
  • And then add weekly or biweekly measurements, to proove who is lord and master of the Gut Challenge hehe
The actual stats would be best posted in a format where we can easily view everyones at the same time, and at a glance get a good idea of their Starting Measurement (then measures in between) and Curent Measurement.
And, %increase in bicep/muscle,
And, %decrease in waistline,
And %decrease (in most of our cases hehe) in weight.
And perhaps a figure which represents the overall change as a percentage. We're men. There has to be a winner yes
edit: We could have a thigh measurement for the ladies... Suggestions on which areas are best measured?

Feel free to suggest a more intelligent or better measuring format(!) I was never into measuring myself when I did work out.

That'll do.

Any suggestions for the best format to organise/present the data, anyone?

Personal Weight tracker and Group Challenge

Edit: actually I can't figure out how to use that website.

I signed up to check it out, but cant find the tracker/graph page.

I suggest we devise a system which doesnt require signing up to a third party website. Id be happy to accept weights/measurements via email fortnightly, and pop the data into something or other which presented all stats on everyone, on one single page. Even if the page was just an exported .jpg file. Might be easier that way, although Im open to suggestions.
