How long till the £20k Evora?

Over the last year I've felt an increasing yearning for an Evora, but £30k is out of my reach. £20k is another matter if I can face selling the Elise and going down to just 1 car.

So with a facelift coming out and (hopefully) restrictions in supply starting to relax, will second hand prices start to come down? What do you think they'll bottom out at and how long until the cheapest 2+2 non-S cars hit £20k? Obviously all speculation but it'll feed my dreams for now!

I'll come clean and say I think the Evora will follow a similar path to the Esprit and (eventually) drop down to sub-£10K. I don't think it'll plateau at 30% of original value like the Elise has simply because the Elise has a niche market to itself while an Evora will always be up against a large number of older 911's and Caymans. I still think it'll depreciate quite gracefully though and I'm guessing it's 18 months before £20k cars start to appear.

It's definitely an outlier that one though, and it's still £6k more than £20k which is quite a bit. Most are still £29k as a minimum - do you think they'll drop £10k in a year?

It'll take a while, but I'm sure they will come down that far and further still. I think the Elise & Exige have a unique niche which basically means if you want a lightweight 2nd car without too many compromises but more practical than a Caterham then they're pretty much the only game in town.

For all it's virtues the same isn't quite true for the Evora, especially with a facelift and increased production coming.

Obviously my view as a hopeful potential owner may be different to that of an existing owner

TBH it's really nice to see such confidence in the model, and it's the stable prices and man-maths that make Elise ownership a sensible option.

Other brands would kill for this sort of retained value.

The running costs don't scare me too much. Big bills can come with any car - my Scirocco has just cost me £750 for a new inlet manifold and a set of coil packs, and that was at an Indy. I think an equivalently priced 911 would be a much riskier prospect than an Evora from what I've head.

I don't think a seeing a specialist Indy on an Evora service record would be a problem at all. It seems a positive plus point for an Elise.

The clutch sounds a bit of scare story to be honest. I'd be prepared to take a risk and spread the potential cost over a few years of ownership. Like blueg33 I've run several cars over 100k miles without ever replacing a clutch, including a couple of Imprezas which according to various buyer's guides eat a clutch every 10-20k miles.

I guess the cars which will fall within my reach will be another couple of years older and 70k miles upwards. As a daily driver I'd push that over 100k miles with a couple of years - then at 10 years old and 100k+ miles that's the point it really will depreciate.

I'm 5ft 6in and have to do this with my Elise. I sit so close to the door hinge that the door aperture isn't big enough unless I put the seat back. Fine for occasional use but a little bit of a pain. Made easier as there is nothing else to adjust and I know exactly where to move the seat to be comfortable.

Never occurred to me that it'd be the same in an Evora.

If someone adjusts the seat in my Scirocco it makes me cry inside - there is only one single exact position where it doesn't give me backache and it took me a week to find it initially!

Well after a year (and a forum name-change for me) it's interesting to the see the cheapest Evora currently on Pistonheads is actually £2k more expensive than 12 months ago!

£30k is where they seem to have settled, great news if you already have one - slightly worse news if you're a wannabe although over the life of the car it certainly helps the man-maths.

bks, just seen it's nearly 2 years since I started the thread and launch edition cars are still being advertised for the same price as back then. Why didn't I just empty my ISA and enjoy it for a couple of years before I went and looked at moving house??

Well, 2 and a half years since my original post and the damn things are STILL £30k. Even though supply has well and truly eased at the top, with twice as many for sale of which half are Evora 400's with a good chunk of depreciation.

So much for my original prediction! No matter, life is busy and an Evora is out of the question for me right now, so just window shopping.

Oddly most still seem to be the same miles as back then too. Where are all the 70k mile cars hiding?

Is it the same as with the Elise S1? Only low miles cars for sale as the rest are being used and held on to?

Well for the first time there is an Evora in the PH classifieds which is cheaper than an Elise S1!

Actually had a very good look around a 2011 Evora for sale yesterday. Came away thinking that although there are a few around £30k I'd have to be very careful making a choice. A few interior and exterior trim issues given it was a 30k miles car.
