Hi, I'm looking at getting myself into an Evora and I have spotted a nice one in a reputable dealer.

It is a 2010 with 18,000 on the clock but has had 4 owners.

I'm surprised at how little time and mileage people spend with some of these cars.

Any of you guys on here explain why some don't stick with them? Is there something about ownership that isn't good?

Have any of you bought that year car and still own from new?

Regards

Matt

7 year old sports car will often have a series of owners, people buy them as toys and then sell when they fancy a different toy. I have always found that when buying sports cars

I wouldn't let it put me off. As always buy on condition, servicing record etc

I went to have a look at the car and it was nice. Looks well cared for but I just can't get my head around why some cars have 1 or 2 owners and then others have 5 or 6. Just makes me wonder what was wrong with the car as so many people I know tend to sell cars if there is something wrong with it they don't like.

The Evora is a great car, but like many great cars it is compromised, eg a 911 has more useable rear seats, a Cayman is easier to get in and out of, a TTRS is faster, for some people the nearest dealer can be some way away. For me, none of those things are an issue. I only kept my first Evora for 2 years, but that's because I decided to buy a newer more expensive Evora, there was nothing wrong with my car.

My current car is 2 years old and I may only keep it for a year. The only reason is that I fancy an Evora 410. But if I sell the car next year it will show 3 owners in 3 years. Previous owner only sold it because he needed the cash to move house, the first owner was Lotus as the car was Martin Donelley's company car for 6 months.

Some people find that some of the compromises are too much for them, ie the have bought the car by mistake, this can apply to any unusual or niche car. In my case the TVR Tuscan has issues that I decided I couldn't live with. Its subsequent owner can live with those issues. In other cases people sell because of circumstances, it doesn't mean that its a bad car.

Its all purely subjective.

As I said, buy on condition and service history.

Lots of sports cars attract an owner or two for whom it just isn't the right car, or people buy for the experience and will only keep it for a year. You'll find loads of examples of any sports car with a good few owners. You'll find hints to any problems in the service history. Mine is wonderful, I wouldn't chose it to sit in traffic every day (I avoid that type of use) but there really isn't much that is as enjoyable to drive out of the city and still comfortable for GT type use.

The only reason I'll change mine is just to experience another car. But I try loads of lovely cars regularly and there is very little as exciting before you get seriously exotic, and then I can't quite get my head around throwing 100k of Ferrari around the A and B roads that I enjoy driving on.

It is not at all unheard of for certain cars to change hands on an annual basis. Four owners since 2010 is hardly a lot. If it looks like they've cared for it, don't worry.

Is it an ex demo? I've found that AU prefixed cars are ex demos mostly.. Mines an AU11 and i'm its sixth owner.. Still an absolute beast.

More likely formerly owned by a manager I think it was post Danny Bahar the scheme was stopped. Clearly Lotus have own use cars so not all have been demo's

Yeah, I have never been a loud colour car person but with a Lotus I think you can get away with it.

I think there is a small chance of buying a lemon, but more often than not it is just because the type of car is bought by people wanting to "scratch an itch" and once done they will sell. A pal of mine has had at least 15 nice cars (and probably more I don't know about, ranging from Griff to 911 to 458 to R8) simply because he likes a new toy regularly and can afford it. He didn't get on with the TVR and sold after about 6 weeks, but nothing actually wrong with it.

On the other hand I've had my Tuscan 13 years and my 996 for 8 years and possibly will never sell either as if/when something major goes wrong I tend to look at it as an opportunity to upgrade... but there have been occasions when I have fallen out of love with both for some minor reason that required £££ spending - others not minded like me might have sold at that point... leaving the buyer equally open to buying a car with problems even with a low number of owners.

I've also had two other TVR's, one with an ownership list as long as your arm and zero issues, one a low miles, one owner immaculate car... apart from the borked engine that the previous owner almost certainly knew about.

cars great............main dealers TERRIBLE , honest, really really TERRIBLE the worst I have ever known and I worked in car manufacturing globally, especially in the south of England, near Southampton area . what made me sell mine?:

Problems with getting spares - 6 weeks for anti toll bar bushes
cars sat waiting for spares at a well known independent for MONTHS he was going up the wall
Main dealer behaviour -ordering wrong parts and other stuff - truly terrible service, happy to take your money then your own your own.
New cars being launched with loads of faults
I know what goes on in the factory unfortunately as I loved LOTUS that was

or I would still have it as I really loved my Evora but saw long term a money pit when it needed things and got out. Got another VXR8.

Same here and also by quite a margin. It might be a geographical thing of course.

Probably not fair to tar all main Lotus dealers with the same brush, just because you're not happy with one.

Not geographic. The Main dealer I use, located by the Thames is also excellent.

The Vauxhall dealer on the other hand terrible. The highlight being that we bought a new car which they managed to actually lose and we ended up with a different higher spec car (seriously we actually own a different car to the one we purchased!!)
