Anyone else bet on the football at the weekends?

I don't do anything serious - but usually have a couple of quid on some long shot accumulaters. Not a great deal of fore-thought - just a look at the forms in the bookies and thats it.

I know there was a BIG winner earlier this week on the forums with a football accumulator, wondered if many other people have them?

I win rarely - so nothing I type here is offered as a tip but i'd say I usually have one or two winners a season - which keeps me interested and happy.

Today i've had the following long shots....

Tenfold (Yes 10) - All to win - odd at: 70/1

Newcastle
Arsenal
Liverpool
Man Utd
Middlesborough
Charlton
Chesterfield
Huddersfield
Rangers
Hamilton

And......

Sevenfold all to win - 80/1

Chelsea
Man City
Southampton
Bristol Rovers
Morecombe
Cowdenbeath
Annan

Couple of poor ones this weekend.

Wigan v Blackburn
Nottm Forest v Ipswich
Tranmere v Sheff Wed
Dundee v Hearts

Backed them all to be draws. Only 1 of the four was. Returns was 103/1 - which should have told me something!

Also had

Man Utd
Arsenal
West Ham
Charlton
Southend

All to win - odds are 17/1 - just need United to beat Swansea away - not an easy game though.

Only a two quid stake.

3 more accumulators this weekend.

Celtic to beat St Mirren
Hearts to beat Inverness
Sheff Utd to beat Chesterfield
Swansea to beat Villa
Everton to beat Bolton

Only returns 32/1 which I thought was a bit stingy really.

Also Got Spurs to beat West Brom
Southampton to beat Bristol City
M'boro to beat P'boro
Sheff Utd to beat Chesterfield - (little mistake here same result on two slips - could have scuppered them both!)
Hamilton to beat Raith
Rnagers to beat Kilmarnock

Returns at a slightly better 47/1

and finally

Norwich QPR to draw
Bournemouth Oldham to draw
Swansea Villa to draw
Charlton Huddersfield to draw

Returns 52/1

Fingers crossed for another good week!

How do I get them?

As in how do I put them on?

I do all my football betting of this type actually in person in the bookies. Saturday morning ritual most weeks!

Or how do I decide on them?

Uusally just gut feel and a quick study of the tables and form. Nothing serious.

I am partly confused as to why you do it as opposed to normal betting. So you ask the bookmaker for a specific set of outcomes?
I mark my coupon with whatever results I fancy and then take it as an accumulator rather than 4, 5, 6 or however many individual bets.

Taking an accumulator IS normal betting isn't it?

Why? Ah, I suppose bigger win for same outlay.
Exactly.

I can have a one or two quid accumulator, that has the possibility of returning anything from 25 - 200 quid depending on the odds.

Staking it on singles would mean tiny returns on many of the games and much smaller stakes for the the same outlay or much higher stakes for the same return.

I don't do this type of betting as an investment or anything else. It increases my interest in the footballing weekend and adds a nice bonus if I happy to get my selections correct. I don't bet large amounts in this way as I know their is almost as much luck as skill involved!

Fair enough. Of course, the bigger the reward, the less likely the outcome...

How have your accumulators been overall?
I'm under no illusion - I lose more times than I win.

Since starting this thread i've won one one out of three weekends - but that has covered all three weeks worth of bets and will probabaly cover me for the next few weekes as well.

I don't keep a record overall of what I win and don't win - its not big stakes, is money I can afford to lose and I enjoy doing it.

hehe It is often the case in football... more often than you'd think! I've lost count of the number of times I've seen the favourite get slaughtered by an underdog. It's quite funny.
Somethign like top of the table Southampton being beaten by Doncaster who have only once once at home all season?

Yeah something like that would do it!

On a brighter note the scond bet is going well - just need Boro to beat Bristol tonight......

I rarely go for midweek ones either - but seeing as I was in the Bookies collecting my winnings.....

Barcelona
Oldham
Preston
Annan
Brentford
Hull

Pays at 25/1

Whihc to be honest aren't great odds - I thought the return might be slightly higher on these selections. Ah well.

William Hill - again I like the sections sheet they do - and its the most local.

Although I'm not adverse to calling in at Ladbrokes.

I do like betting on Annan - infact I quite like betting on Scottish football - the standard is alot lower, the difference in a team at the top of the Scottish 3rd divsion and one at the bottom I always find is alot greater than in the equivelant English leagues.

A few seasons ago - Gretna were on my form almost every week - Annan have replaced them.

They've only been professional for a few years now (2008 season i think)but have already been to the semi finals of the Scottish cup twice, and have lost out on promotion in the last two seasons in the play offs. I just get the feeling they are a little better than the teams around them. (Saying that they lost last week)

Yup - all bookies have an upper payout limit.

It varies by sport as well I think.

Oh and I wouldn't base anything on Lawro - have you seen where he is in this years PH predicathon???

6 fold:

Newcastle
Hull
Cardiff
Leeds
Sheff Wed
Rangers

Pays at 131/1 - which I think is reasonable odds really for a 6 fold. Although I am predicting 6 away victories!

and a 6 fold

Man Utd
Sheff Utd
Charlton
Palace
Swansea
Westham

Pays 73/1 - which again isn't bad really.

However I also took the following ten fold which only pays 66/1 whihc is pretty bloody poor really.

Arsenal
Liverpool
Man Utd
Southampton
Leicester
Barnsley
Celtic
Falkirk
Alloa
Annan (I know... I know)

ETA: and was scuppered by Southampton not beating Blackpool before the rest of the games even kicked off.

Sadly that was on the Fulham match hehe
