Time one is started? (Do we have enough League 1 fans on here to keep it running?)

With Portsmouth starting on -10 and currently only having 8 first team players, it surely means one of the relegation spots is filled.

I'm a Stevenage fan and I'd take any place above the bottom 4 right now. With the manager leaving in Feb, nearly all of the squad has now left too. We have a couple star players remaining and it does look like we've added some quality - but I think there has just been too much change to be successful this season - the club does however have a habit of destroying my doubts.

Now that Evans has left you guys (I really can't stand that man), I'm actually hoping you do well.

I'm looking forward to my trip down to your place, decent pub nearby IIRC and terracing which I've missed since during rise through the leagues - I think Brentford was the only game last season with terracing.

It is a shame what Pompeys fans have been through - thankfully we've got a very level headed chairman and only spend what we have. That said, I am looking forward to a trip to Pompey. Second last away game of the season so hopefully a weekender on the cards.

The bookies, from what I've seen, seem to think Swindon will walk it this year.

Can Coventry return instantly? I don't know if they have retained any of their squad?

I predict a top 2 of Shef U and MK Dons and with Preston being the dark horses now Graham Westley has had a pre season with them.

Bury FC fan here. Would just be happy to stay up again this season.

Last season was a bit of a roller coaster we were either in great form and looking towards the play off's, or on a dire run plumeting towards relegation. We never seemed to be 'middleing'

Our manager has already trotted out the 'harder league than last season line' so hope he's not just getting his excuses ready. And we do have a tough opening few games, looking forward to Doncaster away and hopefully Coventry away as they will be new grounds for me.

Up the Shakers!!!!
It looks like we're going to sign Nicky Ajose. I remember him being useful for you guys. Something to be excited about?

Actually, this thread might have a bit more legs to it if you included L2. I just know there's not enough L2 followers on PH!
Good idea, lots of teams seem to spend their time switching between the two, given the 4 up/down, anyway.

No idea how I change the thread title though? Is it a mod thing? If so, can a mod change it to 'The League 1 and 2 Thread' please?

Looks like we're shipping Craig Reid out on the cheap to Aldershot after a rumoured fall out with the new manager.

I'm gutted. I think this guy has huge potential and will be prolific if he can stay injury free for the 'shots.

It's really put a dampener on the new season for me frown

How did everyone do then?
A (slightly) underwhelming opening 1-1 at home to Carlisle for Stevenage. Bit of a knock down after such an encouraging performance mid week in the cup. Carlisle looked pretty decent though, they should comfortably be in the top half this season.

Sounded like a very routine 1-0 win at the Orient for us last night.

Oldham away Saturday, I'd take a draw. Our home form has been good too. Last defeat was to Orient on Jan 2nd - Still not lost a league game from a winning position since Dec 1 2009 (the only team to beat us from a losing position since then was Spurs in the FA Cup!).

Even better - we actually went 2 years without ever losing a game we scored in.

That Deadman ref is constantly subjected to abuse.

We (Stevenage) were saved by a linesman making a ball up on a very marginal offside to keep the game at 1-1. We then went on to win.

Given we have (I think) 15 new players and our fans still don't believe we are playing even close to our potential, 11 points from 5 having won all 3 away games is a bloody good start.

I can't help but think we won't be able to keep this up, but equally, I don't think we are playing to full potential either. Coventry away yesterday was awesome (and I was on tv a few times too) - just a little gutted it was an early kick off as we found a great pub about 1 miles up the canal from the ground that I could have happily spent some more time in.

Nightmare first 10 saw us 2-0 down to Crewe. Dominated mostly for the rest of the game although Crewe did occasionally look threatening on the counter. Chuks Aneke had a moment of madness and deservedly got sent off which allowed us to play it around a bit and create an opening for the equaliser.

Then massive controversy. A 25 yard shot takes a deflection and falls to a midfielder running at goal, he scores. We go mad, players go mad, referee runs back to the centre ready to kick off. Crewe players surround the lino. Referee then runs over to the lino, we assume to book/warn away the Crewe players. But no, the referee blows his whistle, arm in the air for indirect free kick and the lino raises his flag. WTF!

We can only assume the lino didn't flag thinking the deflection came off of a Crewe player but the referee saw it come off of a Boro player. I guess he asked the lino if he was offside when the deflection happened and the lino said yes and so the referee overturned it (replays have actually showed the player was onside when the deflection happened anyway!!!).

Now, if the lino gave the offside we'd have felt gutted but it's perfectly acceptable (and would have evened out the luck we ha at Cov last week), but, had the Crewe players not thrown a hissy fit, there is NO WAY that goal would have been over turned, THAT is a piss take. Respect the ref, they can FRO (this was Gavin Ward however, a little st stain on the game that I remember from our conference days as a power hungry little tosser).

However, I'd have taken a point hen we were 10 minutes in and we are still unbeaten - albeit with 3 draws at home and 3 wins away (mental!) - and I still don't think we've found a system that suits us.

Tranmere are looking very good. So many goals for already!

I'd have taken a point from Donny away at the start, but it's a little gutting when you take the lead and concede a quite sloppy goal. A little disappointed the manager went there with no intention of getting 3 points going by the squad selection.

Still, 8 games in, 2 points per game and unbeaten. Bury at home should be routine enough if they still haven't got a manager which would make Notts County away on Tuesday HUGE.

Stevenage definitely missed a good chance to close the gap to Tranmere.

After going a goal down (again!), we get ourselves in a winning position and dominating at home against bottom of the league Bury.

Then we go defensive and bottle it and were perhaps lucky not to lose.

Very disappointing. Although we're flying and unbeaten, the home games have been such a disappointment. Tehre'#s so much more potential in our squad than what we're showing.

Just what is going on at Bournemouth? Are your fans pissed off because you're overspending or because you're under achieving with the overspending?

I wouldn't be too happy if my club were chucking around the money you guys are. It will only end in tears.

I think tonight will be the start of Stevenage's drop to mid table.

We have had a nice set of fixtures to start and done ok.

Away to Notts County tonight could be what sets our expectations.

But I believe it will be a fairly commanding win for County. We have some good players but the manager has little to no interest in attacking teams away from home and we have been lucky. Luck can only help you so much though.

Cracking result for Stevenage last night too. I don't think either us or Tranmere will be able to keep up this pace but time will tell.

This team keep on bettering my predictions.

Having taken 13 from a possible 15 away, it's disappointing we've only managed 7 from 15 at home against (on paper) easier opposition.

I hope Crawley do well now you've gotten rid of Evans. That man was such a complete tt.

I'm looking forward to a trip down to the Broadfield. Terraces for away fans are few and far between these days frown

How is Dannie Bulman doing for you guys at this level? I was always a fan of his when he played for us under Westley's first spell. Mark Stimson (Westley's replacement) wasn't a fan and he was soon shipped to you guys on loan IIRC. There are few players I've felt gutted to see go in my time, but Bully was one of them.

Fairly solid win for us at home to Shorpe without really getting into our stride. Cracking goal by Tansey again.

Some good results for us as well so we're clear in second and yet our fans don't have a clue how. Our attendances our down and so many spend the game moaning at players?! It's incredible. I dread to think what our crowds will drop to when/if we ever do stop riding this wave of success.

Colchester away next week should be routine enough looking at their recent form, but then we have a very tough run of games that could see us drop down to where we're expected to be.

We are the only team to have scored in every game so far though biggrin

After ColU we have MK Dons. If we lose our unbeaten streak to them arse holes I will not be pleased.

Although Stevenage only lost 1-0 to Colchester away with 10 men for half an hour, we were completely fking useless.

We went into the game with no intention of committing more than 2 men forward with our two best players on the bench.

So, to keep it short. Very unimpressed.

Ouch. I thought Bury's luck might change with the new manager.
