In a nothing league with only one genuine opponent. I'd like to see them do that week in week out in the EPL.
I had the same way of thinking too only last season, but having been watching it a lot recently thanks to a Spanish house mate (supports Athletico Madrid) I'd have to say that the teams appear worst then they actually are thanks to the level Real and Barca are at, (although this season a number of teams have given Real a fight and got a result)I've seen some of the most technical football I've ever seen by watching La Liga. It's hardly a 'nothing league'. The lower teams in la Liga would give a footballing lesson to most of the bottom teams in the prem IMHO.

They are a delight to watch of that there is no question, would be interesting to see how pep goes with an EPL team ?
I don't see the fascination with pep. Tito (the new Barca manager) has come in and there even better then when pep left so I guess he's the next god like manager. The players they have mean that no matter what team they go up against, man for man they'll be better then them. I truly think it would be more of an achievement if a manager came in and managed NOT to win a trophy with these players.

"Facts"?
You can take any facts about individual games you want, and use them as the drunk uses a lampost.
Celtic beat Barcelona, but failed to beat Dundee Utd the week before, or St Johnstone the week after
Barcelona are not a team of gods. It is possible to get a result against them as many teams have (Celtic, Arsenal and Chelsea to name but a few) But to say that they only seem as good as they are because they play in La Liga is ridiculous. La Liga is a very Strong League. It would be foolish to assume that the league isn't based on the results that Barca and Real get against most teams. you only have to look at the talent that has come in from that league to the Prem to see just how many quality players apply there trade in La Liga. and how many players have gone to Spain after having success in the Prem but found it difficult to replicate that in La Liga. On a technical level there isn't a better league in the world IMHO.You can take any facts about individual games you want, and use them as the drunk uses a lampost.

The fact that the Premier League is the most unpredictable (although its quickly becoming more and more predictable) somehow translates it into being the best league in the world all depends on what your own opinion of what makes a league great. for me its the way the football is played.

The new guy has a much easier job than Pep.

Barca have been poor tonight - worst I've seen them for a long time. Madrid look useful though - Utd beware ...
Yep, Barca haven't been the team they once were for a few games now. Maybe it has something to do with There manager not being there. Manchester United have a tough match againts Real. Going to be tasty for a neutral.

Ronaldo vs a possible man marker (Jones?) is likely to be crucial to the outcome of the tie IMO.
The rest of the Madrid team are all excellent players, but nothing better than United see at least every couple of weeks, so they can deal with them 9 games out of 10.
I disagree. Real Madrids team dwarfs any prem team IMHO. Not something united have been up againts many times this season certainly. United will need to be on their a-game and have a little luck to get past them. Looking forward to it though. The rest of the Madrid team are all excellent players, but nothing better than United see at least every couple of weeks, so they can deal with them 9 games out of 10.

Hmmmmm Ronaldo, Di Maria, Benzema/Higuain, Ozil not to mention Alonso pulling the strings Vs:
I did say excluding Ronaldo, the rest of the Madrid team are all excellent players, but nothing better than United see at least every couple of weeks.
Bear in mind Madrid's squad for the night is likely to have a few ex-Prems in there: Alonso, Arbeloa, Modric, Essien.
Would you rather face Bale or Di Maria?
Benzema or Suarez?
Ozil or Wilshere?
Miles better than the top Premiership players they are not, "IMHO"
While I see the point you are trying to make I don't agree. Alonso is a better version of himself since his Liverpool days and Essien and Modric aren't exactly Real Madrids first choice. I did say excluding Ronaldo, the rest of the Madrid team are all excellent players, but nothing better than United see at least every couple of weeks.

I also think Ozil is a more attacking threat then Wilshere and Di Maria is better then Bale. (Di Maria is one of the most underrated players in the top divisions I think) the one thing Man Utd trumps Real at is RVP. Give him a sniff of a chance and that's all he needs to get a goal. Although the same can be said for Ronaldo. As I say I can't wait for the game, both have a healthy respect for one another and with Fergie at the helm If I was a betting man I'd say United may just edge it. All in all I expect a cracking game.

To give RM max recovery for Man Utd?
Just speculating.
IIRC the teams get the date, then choose when to play.
IIRC Barca kicked off at half 11 at night a few years ago in protest that they had to play 2 games in 3 days or something
Note: I may have dreamt up the IIRCs....!
I know 10PM kick offs are quite normal. Can't imagine that happening in the Prem!Just speculating.

Took Jose a while but looks like he has Barcelonas number these days (head to head)
Barca hasn't been the same team since there manager had to take time off. That said real have been in fine form recently. If they get through united I can't see anyone stopping then in the champions league. Gassing Station | Football | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
