Go on then. If no one minds my slightly crap table production, I'll run it.

Who's in? If you are, add your name to my list below. Reckon the closing date should be the eve of the first game (so 13th June).

RULES FOR WORLD CUP PREDICTATHON (reproduced by kind agreement of Gadgetmac)

These rules can be amended/added to by a simple consensus of more than half the people playing all agreeing to the change - this isn't my game, it belongs to everyone playing – UP TO A POINT. Any rule changes which increase the workload for the Administrator can be vetoed by him. You can ask any following administrator to reconsider should that happen.

Once agreed, however, and in order to be fair and unbiased, the rules will be adhered to all season as once you allow one person to bend them, others begin to think there's favouritism being shown.

So, the rules are as follows:

1. THIS THREAD

Please keep this thread for Predictathon business only. Banter etc is always welcome as before, but if you want to have in-depth discussions about other football subjects, please do it on another thread.

2. POSTING YOUR PREDICTIONS

If you’ve agreed to play you MUST keep an eye on this thread including looking back to pages that you’ve haven’t read before and posting your predictions in good time.

All predictions must be submitted by the deadlines shown below. Please post in this forum in the same format as before, listing your scores below the fixtures thus:

Russia v Saudi Arabia 1-1
Egypt v Uruguay 1-2
Morocco v Iran 3-3
Portugal v Spain 0-2
France v Australia 1-2
Argentina v Iceland 1-2
Peru v Denmark 1-1
Croatia v Nigeria 2-1

1 1
1 2
3 3
0 2
1 2
1 2
1 1
2 1

In the group stages, this won't be so problematic but in the knockout stages, the scoreline will be the one at the final whistle. e.g if England v Spain finished 0-0 at 90 minutes, then extra time and Spain won 4-2 on penalties, the correct scoreline would be 0-0. Comprendez?

Make sure you have the right number of scores in the list! If you don't it will be your loss as I won’t be counting your entries and notifying you if you are short, in such cases your scores will be deemed to correspond to the games in order, ie. if you only post 9 scores, these will be deemed to apply to the first nine matches and you will be awarded zero points for the tenth match. ‘Edited’ forecasts are not permissible and will be ignored so once you press ‘post’ I’m afraid that’s it.

Very important - the times mentioned are BST, not the actual kickoff times. It's not as important in the group match stage as all predictions need to be in by midnight the day before, but in the knockout stages, this will be crucial.

3. MISSING THE DEADLINE

If you forget to submit your predictions or submit them too late, you will be awarded zero points for every game.

4. THE GIZMO! PASS

This is a fairly simple one to answer, there isn’t one. Sit up straight and post when you are supposed to.

I can’t forget to post the fixtures each week - which over holiday periods can be tricky - so you can’t forget the simple task of Predicting each week or whenever there are matches.

5. HOLIDAYS ETC

If you are going away please tell me by posting on this thread (don’t email me as I don’t check my emails that frequently) and I will email you the fixtures you will miss for you to forecast in advance. Post your forecasts onto the thread, do not send them back to me. If you don't do this you'll be awarded zero points for each game you miss and will be removed from the game should that take you over the limit of 3 (yes 3, more on that in a minute) matchdays in total each season that you can miss.

6. FAILING TO PREDICT

There is a new ‘3 strikes’ rule now in operation. If you do not forecast for 3 matchdays in total without a prior notification of your intention not to forecast being posted on this thread (ie you are going on holiday, your cat got run over, your woman slapped you about a bit, paper cuts etc), you will be removed from the league. There will be no warnings given if you are already at 2 strikes and you fail to forecast again - you will simply find yourself excluded from the game. If you can’t be bothered for 3 matchdays in the tournament, I won’t be chasing your a*se. There will be no readmittance to the Predictathon should you have not had the decency to inform the administrator (ie Me) that you won’t be forecasting over the course of 3 matchdays in the tournament. It’s not fair for you to do this as it’s a LOT of work. Likewise, if you register to play and then don't play in the very first week without prior notice you'll be removed. Sorry, but you've got to show willing right from the outset.

I said at the start of last season that “I would suggest moving to a ‘3 strikes’ regime next season as even 4 seems overly generous to me” and now I’m moving to cement that as a rule.

7. COMEDY FORECASTS

Please don’t post comedy forecasts (ie 10-0 and other obvious nonsense) - this isn't allowed and you'll be given zero points for all of that matchday’s forecasts if you do it. By all means post funny comments above the actual list of scores that I'll be cut 'n' pasting but take the forecasts seriously.

8. POINTS

As in previous years, 1 point will be given for a correct prediction (home win/away win/draw) with an additional 3 bonus points awarded for a correct score line. See above as to which scoreline is used in the event of penalties.

9. YOUR WEEKLY SCORE

You are responsible for checking that I have got your points earned that week correct and letting me know if something is amiss, which I’m sure you will.

10. MY WEEKLY SCORE

You’re all welcome to double check my score each week and I’d suggest you do. I cheat, frequently. So if suddenly I’m top of the table, you’d be well advised to check.

11. POSTPONED OR REARRANGED GAMES

Scores will be held in the system for postponed games and points will be calculated once the games have been played.

12. THE TABLE

I will publish the table after each section of games 9see below). Bear in mind that it takes a lot of work!

13. TABLE POSITIONS

In the event of 2 or more players having the same points totals the league table positions will be determined firstly by the number of correct score lines predicted. If it’s still equal, alphabetical order will be used.

e.g

Glover Mart gets 48 points from 24 correct results and 6 correct scorelines
Gadgetmac gets 48 points from 28 correct results and 5 correct scorelines

... Glover Mart would be the winner. Because he's cool Because he had 6 correct and Gadget only had 5.

14. NUMBER OF PLAYERS

This is really limited to 32 players as per the number of nations competing. But it doesn't really matter how many play, it just won't exceed 32.

15. YOU & I - OUR PACT

In short, I agree to

1. Publish the fixtures each week
2. Gather in your forecasts
3. Store any predictions for postponed games and apply them when due.
4. Calculate your points
5. Record any missing forecasts each week
6. Compile and Publish the League Table

The End.

You agree to

1. Read the thread
2. Follow any instructions or set timetables and revisions for Holiday periods
3. Actually forecast.

Everyone must pull their weight as the administrator doesn't have the time or the inclination to pull both his weight and yours. And in my case, I can barely pull my weight, I'm so heavy!

Thank you for reading this and good luck.

Prediction Deadlines

Section 1 - first round of group games from Thursday 14th June to Tuesday 19th June - all predictions must be in by midnight Wednesday 13th June

Section 2 - second round of group games from Tuesday 19th June to Sunday 24th June - all predictions must be in by Monday 18th JuneTuesday 19th June at 6.00pm

Section 3 - third round of group games from Monday 25th June to Thursday 28th June - all predictions must be in by Sunday 24th June Monday 25th June at 2.00pm.

Now the tricky bit...

Section 4 - the last sixteen round of games from Saturday 30th June to Tuesday 3rd July. As this is a knockout and not much time to predict, I'll extend the deadline till an hour before kickoff. The first match kicks off at 3pm BST on Saturday 30th June so predictions for all eight last 16 games need to be in by 2pm BST on that day.

Section 5 - the quarter final round of games on Friday 6th July and Saturday 7th July. I'll again extend the deadline till an hour before kick off.The first quarter final kicks off at 3pm BST on Friday 6th July so predictions for all four quarter finals need to be in by 2pm BST on that day.

Section 6 - the semi final round of games on Tuesday 10th July and Wednesday 11th July. I'll again extend the deadline till an hour before kickoff. The first semi final kicks off at 7pm BST on Tuesday 10th July so predictions for both semi finals need to be in by 6pm BST on that day.

Section 7 - the third place playoff / final. All predictions should be in by an hour before kickoff of the third place game, 3pm on Saturday 14th July.

Sorry that the last post is a lot to read. Although there are only 58 games, it's a mix of a league format and a cup format and there's not a lot of time inbetween matches to get your arse into gear. If anyone has any queries, please let me know as I'm open to suggestions. It would be nice to get another three more to join, just to make 16 but no worries if not.

Will probably upload the first set of fixtures next Wednesday which will give you a week to predict. Still open for more to come in if they want to join....

Rather than overly confuse things, games will be listed in the order they are played, rather than alphabetically.

Don't worry about not knowing anything about football, it's a pre-qualifying condition for this competition. thumbup

Right, here goes!

Predictions must be in by midnight on Wednesday 13th June Remember the rules, a "no show" will mean you get zero points awarded for every match. Three strikes and you're out. Dem's da roolz, innit.

Here we go then for Round 1...

Thur 14 - Russia v Saudi Arabia
Fri 15 - Egypt v Uruguay
Fri 15 - Morocco v Iran
Fri 15 - Portugal v Spain
Sat 16 - France v Australia
Sat 16 - Argentina v Iceland
Sat 16 - Peru v Denmark
Sat 16 - Croatia v Nigeria

Sun 17 - Costa Rica v Serbia
Sun 17 - Germany v Mexico
Sun 17 - Brazil v Switzerland
Mon 18 - Sweden v Korea
Mon 18 - Belgium v Panama
Mon 18 - Tunisia v England
Tue 19 - Colombia v Japan
Tue 19 - Poland v Senegal

One difference from the Premier League Predictathon that I didn't mention, don't worry about hyphens as I'm not copying this across to a spreadsheet. And I've split the sixteen games into two groups of eight games just so it's easier on the eye rather than one gert long list.

Finally (I think), got room for four more people, will keep it to 20 if possible.

Good luck everyone.
