Looks like this has again been spearheaded by Liverpool and Manchester United but with Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and Man City also looking to join.
It's being backed by FIFA.
"Sky News has learned that financiers are assembling a $6 billion (£4.6 billion) funding package to assist the creation of what could become known as the European Premier League. More than a dozen teams from England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain are in negotiations about becoming founder members of the competition."
Provisional start date of 2022.
Sources said that FIFA, football's world governing body, had been involved in developing the new format, which is expected to comprise up to 18 teams, and involve fixtures played during the regular European season.

I'm not sure I like the implications of the format or the name or the association of the "Big Six" with the instigation of it.
Will places be reserved in the new European Premier League for the Big Six clubs and others from Spain, Germany etc?
The term European 'Premier League' also hints at a downgrading of the English 'Premier League'.

I would have thought that's pretty universal. When they do the FA Cup 3rd round draw, the non league and League 1&2 clubs all want Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City etc. I've never heard one of them say "we're really hoping for Burnley".
Colchester hopes for spurs tbh. Big news about this breaking now...

Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal signed up. Man City undecded.
Suspect Everton, Leicester and West Ham will be upset about this just for starters.

Not a chance in hell, if the big six are serious, of the Prem kicking them out.Just for starters all of the Sponsors and TV companies will be wanting their money back immediately...and it’ll be reinvested in the new Super League just to really rub it in. Remember, finances in this covid era are in deep st as it is.
The Prem would thus collapse as a competition of any note...see Scotland for details.
PSG and Bayern will also ultimately join once they see that the Champions League has been devalued by about 95% without the super league clubs.
This has been very carefully planned, make no mistake about it. It’s a coup.

We'll see. Premier league rights are sold until 2022, play hardball now and this gets strangled in its cot. Lets not forget this isn’t something that the 14 clubs are going to be affected by in reality, its the big 6 telling UEFA they want to play in a different competition from the Champions League and UEFA Cup. Why would those 14 clubs cut their own wrists over something that doesn’t really affect them?

Bayern and PSG come out against it. Kick them out to enjoy their "super" league.
Bundesliga clubs must be majority owned by the fans. gaseous clay said:

Once push comes to shove they’ll be picked off by the new Super League. Even their fans won’t tolerate second tier status and finances.
Second tier may well be the teams who've decided that they'd rather play 20 friendlies a season than compete in a league with actual jeopardy. Looks like the 12 clubs have already moved to protect themselves from being blocked in their quest to get the Super League up and running....

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin wants to issue a ban at some point this week after meeting with his legal team, sources tell CBS Sports insider Fabrizio Romano.
The group of 12 have responded by sending letter to FIFA and UEFA leaders, informing them that the Super League has already taken legal action to protect anyone looking to block their competition. The Associated Press obtained the following letter:
"We are concerned that FIFA and UEFA may respond to this invitation letter by seeking to take punitive measures to exclude any participating club or player from their respective competitions
"Your formal statement does, however, compel us to take protective steps to secure ourselves against such an adverse reaction, which would not only jeopardize the funding commitment under the Grant but, significantly, would be unlawful. For this reason, SLCo (Super League Company) has filed a motion before the relevant courts in order to ensure the seamless establishment and operation of the Competition in accordance with applicable laws.
"It is our duty, as SLCo's board members, to ensure that all reasonable actions available to protect the interests of the Competition and our stakeholders are duly taken, given the irreparable damage that would be suffered if, for any reason, we were deprived of the opportunity to form promptly the Competition and distribute the proceeds of the Grant."

I read this morning that Barca and Real were to get £52m more than then other participants in the now dead ESL.
