Subaru Legacy 2004 - Clutch Advice Needed

I have just driven a 2004 legacy estate which I am thinking of buying as a general hack/dog crate/shed. It has done 82,000 and whist being a bit tatty around the edges drives well - but the clutch is very very heavy.

That salesman assures me they are 'all like that', but I'm of the opinion it's probably past its best.

Can anyone with experience of these cars let me have their thoughts and likely cost to change?
