Hawaii seems to be a bit quiet on the threads?

https://volcanoes.usgs.gov/volcanoes/kilauea/multi...

Caught a few clips on the news but some of those pictures are a bit more revealing.

News reporting one poor sod has been injured by splatter, shattered lower leg or something.

Good call.

Always been interested in the different types of volcanoes that exist. We studied these in school as part of Physical Geography. That was back in the 1970s. we know a lot more about how volcanoes work these days and how they are closely linked to plate tectonics.

Some interesting stuff in here

Edit.
Wowzers, someone suggest the fire department use the hoses to prevent one stream. I know the people on Iceland did something similar in the 70s (?) but that was not using fire trucks.

I've been occasionally watching a livestream of the Kilauea lava flow, taken from someone's house.

It looks and sounds rather angry.

I've seen a load of stuff on this on the news and it's amazing and horrendous at the same time, loads of people have lost their homes and belongings. In one area a bunch of people and there homes were surrounded by Lava and had to be air lifted to safety. Also saw a time lapse video of a lava flow coming out of a forest, crossing a road and completely consuming an old Ford Mustang. There seems to be nothing that can be done to stop or re-direct it. Despite what Hollywood may have you believe (think Tommy Lee Jones in "Volcano"!).

I was following the map on the USGS for the volcano, these fissures appear to have opened on old ones and there are communities all around it.

The one from 1955

Edit. all this seems to be some 40 miles from Kīlauea.

Rusty the rooster is keeping an eye on it for them. They sometimes put him on camera.

The volcano seems to be stepping it up a bit now.

Big cultural significance here as well.

Well, Hawaii Kilauea overlook will need a new car park area.

To be fair it says that car park has been closed for 10 years so no great loss.

Some good video footage of the summit crater slump on youtube too.

still going in hawaii

interesting potential darwin award winning boat trip to within 200m of the EXPLODING VOLCANO footage available from various sources...

is it showing signs of abaying or getting worse the eruption?
