I have done some decent jobs on cars over the years and never shyed? away from a challenge.

I did the rear suspension on my Passat, arms ,springs, bushes etc a couple of years back.
It got mentioned on a service that two rear tie arms were bad so I thought no problem, I can do them.

Well yesterday I had a go........and gave up. I just couldn't be bothered struggling with rusty bolts etc. I intended to do the arms, new anti roll bar bushes and wire brush and paint the rear subframe.
A local garage took pity on me and I am dropping it off later.
Chatting with my son last night he mentioned about getting a bit old to be crawling about on the floor and I hated to admit it but he was right.cry

Having done my share of engine changes in the street, it was great to build a barn and have a lift installed. It does make cleaning the wheels very easy. wink
However, having got to the stage of life where varifocals are required, it is a nightmare to try and focus on something very close to the face...Still, at least it's dry.

Now if I had that set up the job would have been done no problem at all. Very impressive.

Well the last minute garage booking worked out well. They did a sterling job of the suspension and bushes, the young bloke said it was a pain in the butt. £90 well spent.
Took it to Kwik fit had my new tyres fitted and the geo done and it feels like a different car.

Not totally given up on home fixes. My son managed to snap the drive shaft on his Civic type r so got one from a scrappie (ripped off but I was desperate) . We fitted that at the side of the road at his place. Broken Friday morning fixed tea time.

Well, had a nice experience today. Wanted to clean and paint the rear subframe on my Passat and my son had a new exhaust to fit to his Fn2 civic so I hired a bay at a newly opened local place.

Two post lift, clean and dry place and help if you needed it. Best 40 quid I have spent.

The exhaust swap went well other than a real struggle with the three front pipe to exhaust studs. One of them came off but the other two put up a fight. My son came up with the brilliant idea of cutting a slit in the flange next to the broken and seized studs. They knocked out nice and easy then.
New exhaust was an actual shiny stainless thing of beauty, shame nobody will ever see it. Sounds wonderful.
