I'm looking to do a PCV licence and there's a good chance that either all or most of it is going to be paid by a local training company

however,

I dont want to take money if it means i'm not going to get a job at the end of due to having points on my licence which number at 15.

I'd lent my car to a "friend" to keep it clean and he'd got caught on camera twice. By the time the letter etc came through he'd done a disappearing act. so hence i was done for failing to provide driver details twice to a total of 12 points and i had three points from a previous speeding offence a year earlier. I've not been disqualified i would like to add

what i'm asking is with these 15 points would companies take on me as a driver or would it be slim pickings? I dont want to do it take money that could be beneficial to someone else - and then find out i cant get a job with it. On the other hand the chance of getting a PCV paid for most likely wouldnt arise again. the points still have three years to go till expiry.

thanks for the reply

i've been driving since 1998 so thats not a problem.

I've been racking my brain to get some contacts in this area - i've got a few mates who have mates in this so i'm going to be looking into that with regards to a job.

insurance wise - i'd assume it was a blanket fleet insurance rather than individual but i'm sure even then there would be restrictions

i got the points earlier this year in January so a few years left.

i just checked the licence and the law

4 years from the date of offence

In all other cases endorsements stay on your licence for 4 years from the date of offence.
so by that the sp50 - date of offence 23/12/2008 - i believe this means this will be gone in two days time?

the two MS90's - date of offence 07/2010 + 08/2010 - thats a bit of a longer wait till 2014.

anyway thanks for the reply gus. if i could find the guy who got me those points i'd fking kill the

Im wondering how you get to keep your licence with.15 points?
you get to have a lovely day in court where you can explain to the judge what the rammifications of a ban would be.

the result is a higher fine but a no ban and you cant use the same excuse should you get caught again

I've heard of smaller companies being less strict - not that i've found evidence on the contrary. 6 does seem to be the highest i've seen.

I've read on a few forums that LGV seems to be a far better choice at the moment

Not at the moment, always been the way. This thread is a few years old but will give you an idea.

spoke to driverhire and they've said most companies allow 6 points 12 is rare.
