Looking at a twin cab pick up for work, as far as I can see the Ranger's load space is too narrow to get a sheet of ply or plasterboard in between the wheel arches-anyone confirm?

Wondered if anyone had much experience of one on here?

A van isn't really necessary for what I do.

You will probably find none of the UK pick up trucks will carry a sheet of plasterboard/ply (assuming 8x4 sheet) between the wheels,I think the widest is the VW Amorok at just under 2m wide,you could make a temporary frame so the boards sit on top of the wheel.

Yes, I was also meaning the 1200 edge. I've not seen any where a sheet can be slid between the arches

Test drove the Amorak and it'll do it, albeit with only about 20mm to spare (load width is 1222mm). Obviously all materials get delivered to site but as everyone knows, the whole point of a vehicle like this is that if you're a board short or whatever you can nip to the merchants and pick it up.

You probably already know this, but 4’ is 1220mm, not 1200. That will give you
a mere 2mm to play with.

Had the same issue today. an 8x4 sheet does not fit between the arches.

And none of the nearby Ford dealers will work on it, has to go to a commercial dealer.

And it's boneshakingly uncomfortable if driving on anything other than a billiard table.

I’m late to this of course, but I have a Ranger that I use for occasional material transport. The arches are too narrow to carry boards, but you can remedy thirst with a decent pallet in the back. It will fit between the arches and lift the load above the wheel arches so you can get much bigger stuff in.
