I wouldn't mind a new or at least newer van and i am in total shock at the prices of them. I need a tipper and what im seeing is actually quite a problem for me and i imagine many other tradesman.

A new transit chassis cab, so thats with no body is 41k plus vat! REALLY

used transits are fking 20 grand plus vat with 70k miles on them and are 6 or 7 years old. Sprinters the same.

in 2015 i bought a new mitsubishi canter tipper with ali body for 20.5k plus vat. That same thing is now around 32k plus.

Will this soften, or is this now it.

Theres no way i would spend 40k on a fking van that cant even legally carry much anyway. I would much rather drive a banger and put the money towards a bloody McLaren hehe which if a transit is 50k with the vat a used McLaren is actually starting to look cheap hehe

Anyway, thats quite a problem for most business surely, i am just a small company and i cant get my head round it, what about large companies that need 100 vans, the costs must be eye watering.

5/10 could do better, a quick autotrader search gives plenty of 2017 on tippers at around £16-17k, e,g

Oh, and a brand new one can be bought for under £30k;

The first one is 6 years old with 50k on it and old shape. so not for me. still strong money for what it is. 3 years ago that sort of thing would have been closer to 12k plus vat which is then reasonable.

Second one, ok i will fully take that on the chin, i haven't seen anything like that and its much more palatable.

Either way still an incredible amount of money for a van.

Its funny now that if you were to turn up to quote in a new transit people wouldn't think twice, yet turn up in an aston and you must be charging too much.

Fortunately i live in a place where everyone seems to know me anyway so might just go for an aston and tow bar for work hehe

Im going to leave it a while as the prices are just too much.

I would honestly rather use what we have (they look tidy anyway) and put the money towards a real fun car!

Its a shame that to drive a 7.5t you have to do the test, i could put one of my lads through and give him the 7.5t but if he leaves im fked.

I guess thats why 7.5t tippers are so cheap compared to 3.5t tippers.

Its laughable really as the test is not really any different to a normal driving test. They must also realise that most vans and tippers are driven well over weight because they take next to no realistic weight, so why not just make it more accessible?

Even though i have been on here about 20 years i still dont know how to multi quote hehe

Pickup and trailer is just a pain in the arse, had a trailer before and tbh hated it. Parking it being the main issue. They are good though for the right circumstances.

I do have the 7.5 licence myself, one of the best things i have done.

I could well put one of the boys through and should do really. I could replace his van with a 7.5t and then replace my van (a 2016 canter 3.5t) with a newer nicer transit.

I mean this isn't a major issue, i just thought to myself that i dont often use my 3.5t tipper much now as use the 7.5t but when i do use it im not really carrying the weight and it would be better to have something nicer than a canter to use.
