Gas On Gas Off

My better half is driving me mad. She wants the gas turned off at the bottle when we go to bed which means I have to go out side in all weathers and again in the morning braving the ice and snow to turn it on again to make a cup of Rosie Lea. Is it really necessary to do all that can't I just leave it on till we leave ?
