Just bought myself a T4 Beetle Bus.

How to the drive away awnings fix to the side of the van? You wouldn't want rain dripping in through the gap, is there some kind of track or zip you leave on the van?

There's several ways to do it TBH

Ideally the van will have a gutter or an awning rail fitted, or get one if you haven't. once you have a rail you can then use some figure 8 plastic strip and a double beading (Kador) strip. The strip goes on the awning beading then the kador joins the rail and fig 8 together. Driving away is easy, you just pull out rhe kador bit and rethread it on returning.

There's loads of other ways including straps, hooking the plastic fig 8 directly to a gutter if it has one etc etc but I've found having a proper rail and kador strip to be by far the best option for me
Thank you!

Years back we were on site in our T2 Bay window which had a non free standing drive away awning. We'd been thinking of getting a free stander for a while, though we had erecting and dismantling the awning off to a fine art thought it would be an improvement.

So we were interested to see a group in a T3 pull up nearby with a driveway awning.

Off they went leaving it on their pitch, it had a similar arrangement to that above to connect awning and van rail.

When they got back it was absolutely persisting it down. Maybe they were new to the van / awning, or maybe they were just hopeless, but what a flaming dogs breakfast they made of getting the van back into position. Kept ending up just too far away to make the connection.

Drowned rats by the end, Mrs and I reckoned we could have had our awning up from scratch in half the time. So we never got one, and continued with the one we had until we sold the van.

Mind you it still pissed me off when out for the day to come back and someone has nicked your pitch.
Thanks, I had wondered about exactly that.
