Anyone been up Ben Nevis in the past few days?
Discussion
At a bit of a loose end, and was thinking of jumping on the overnight train to Fort William and having a go at Ben Nevis on Tuesday, via the Carn Mor Dearg route, before the weather closes in on Tuesday.
Wondered what conditions were like at the top in terms of snow/ice - is it still safe to go up in walking boots without crampons etc?

Cheers - but actually I jumped on a train a few hours after posting, and 12 hours later was in Fort William. Dossed around on Monday and then went up on Tuesday morning. Couldn't have asked for better weather! Bright and sunny, little bit chilly but only needed a fleece on when I stopped for a breather. No (real) wind either so the ridge wasn't too scary. Only saw a few people on the CMD route, so it came as quite a shock when I finished the final climb and it was like Piccadilly Circus at the top with folks that had come up the tourist trail! That's the way I went down though, as my knees aren't too good and I just wanted an easy descent.
Had a cracking day though, and it means ive "completed the set" with Snowden & Scarfell now.
The next day (Wednesday, yesterday) was absolutely pissing down, so I shall make a sacrifice to the mountain gods by way of thanks.
Only got back to glorious Berkshire a few hours ago...
