Good day!

First time posting in this section. I am on the look out for a small 2 or 3 berth caravan. Nothing posh or expensive.

I currently drive a 2014 Ford Transit Connect LWB 240. Anyone here tow a caravan with one of these? Would love to know how they tow.

My log book says I can tow a max of 1200kg braked so looking for a caravan in the region of 1100kg or less. Any recommendations would be great. Budget is max £2000.

Thanks in advance.

Woah, 1200kg is LOW. It'll be hard to find a 2 berth caravan from this century that weighs so little.

My dad has an Ace Jubilee 2 berth caravan made in about 2009/10. I wouldn't say it's particularly big or heavy but its max weight is 1360kg.

A google around shows that a few other people have noted this weight limitation on the transit connect. Good luck!

Isn't the Transit Connect based on a the old Ford Focus chassis? You don't see many MK1 focus's towing a caravan.

There are some lighter weight vans out there.
Also be aware that some sites may get a bit sniffy if you turn up towing your caravan with a Van, It may be worth ringing them first.

Thanks for the replies.

Im actually looking at the Swift Basecamp which falls within my towing weights along with a few other nice 2 berths.

Ive heard some sites and other caravaners put there noses up to van towing so will look into that. Im not very good with snobby people lol.

The transit connect is its own platform now I believe.

Not so much a snobbish thing, but a lot of sites have a "no commercial vehicles" rule to make it easier to turn travellers away. Our regular site has the rule but plenty of vans on site.

You could do worse than look at an Elddis 302 or 304. Both around the tonne mark iirc, and very practical vans.
The Basecamp is lovely, but pricey.
And then there is always the Freedom range, which are a little too small to my way of thinking, but you won't get a better warranty package!
