Following on from Purpletutle asking "What are people's plans for 2021 then?" I thought it merited a new thread...as there's not much else going on at the mo.

We were hoping to go down to the south of France in May/June but that's looking increasingly unlikely now. Therefore it'll be Cornwall and Devon outside of school half term/holidays.

We are more optimistic of getting across to Italy in September. We'll head down to Lake Iseo for a couple of weeks. Nothing beats lake swimming.

Aside from that it'll be UK sites I suspect: Cheltenham and Cirencester to see friends and family when we are allowed and maybe a few coastal sites in Wales.

Are you folks finding campsites already booked up/busy?

I booked the Chunnel last August for our annual trip down to Spain in January this year. We normally go jan-March...we should be there now frown

Obviously the trip was cancelled and we have until 31/08 to use the tunnel or else the ticket expires. As we don't head anywhere abroad when it's too hot or in school holidays, we might lose this one unfortunately.

If allowed to travel we should be able to perhaps use the outward bit by 31/08 which would be something I guess...

You have up to 31/8 to rebook and you can book up-to 12 months in advance so your ticket is useable to 29/08/22 so you could book Jan- March next year
I originally booked on 31/08/20 and was under the impression that I had to take the trip within a year of that date...i.e by 31/08/21..so this year.

Are you saying I only have to re-book by 31/08 this year and they will extend it for another year?

I was under the impression that it all had to be done and dusted within a year of original booking.

Give them a call ! They seem to be extending beyond the original terms - I booked for Easter 2020 in January 2020 my ticket supposedly would have expired in January 2021 I phoned up and they gave me a credit voucher for 1 year

extract from their email below

"we would like to confirm the details of your voucher* to the value of X GBP for use with your next ticket purchase made directly with Eurotunnel Le Shuttle. Your voucher number is CVxxxxx and is valid for redemption by 2022-01-25.

When booking with our Contact Centre, you will be asked for random characters from your surname in order for this voucher to be redeemed. For full Terms and Conditions for this voucher, please refer to the bottom of this email.

Please note that although your voucher needs to be redeemed by the above date, it can be used for travel after this time. "
That's useful - thanks.

As mine was bought using Tesco vouchers I'll have to see if they are as generous biggrin

I'll still check when i ring them regarding this however looking at their terms and conditions, standard tickets can be amended but "...For travel to be completed within 1 calendar year of the date of original purchase"

https://www.eurotunnel.com/Eurotunnel/files/ff/ffb...

Therefore I think we'll probably end up being able to use half the ticket if we travel out prior to 31/08 and I'll have to pay for a single back from France.

We decided not to book anything yet until the future is a little clearer. Its a risk re availability but as we are not tied to school holidays, we can go anytime.

We tend to go to adult only sites in July/August anyway.

We would be away now in Spain. I had paid deposits on 2 sites and they both agreed to hold them until next winter. It looks likely that we may lose half our tunnel booking unless we can get away May/June (unlikely) but as its paid for with Tesco vouchers in effect it's not a huge loss in hard monetary terms.

Following the optimistic announcements yesterday I booked us 20 days in Cornwall and Devon earlier. It's not until June so fingers crossed.

Hopefully we can get away sooner than that but we'll have to see how it pans out in the next month or so.

It's something to look forward too at long last smile

Looks like April 12th is freedom day?

Haven’t booked anything earlier than June but I’m going to try and get a few days here and there before then if nothing else to make sure the van is all functioning correctly. Been stored all lockdown and not been able to visit it let alone run it up and down the motorway to keep the batteries charged.
Was it plugged in at the storage place?

We are fortunate as ours it at home so I plug it in every 2-3 weeks or so...just for a couple of days. I booked my habitation check yesterday for the end of March, so it'll get its first run since December, then.

I have booked a couple more trips away.

In Wales it looks as though the campsites are open here from 27th March so we now have 4 days booked at Pembrey. This is before the English hordes are set free on 12th April hehe

I also booked 11 nights up in Cirencester for late in May after the date when the showers etc should be open for use.

We have agreed to go to Italy in September but as they only entered a new lockdown this week, I'm beginning to think that might be out. Back up plan is the south of France...and if that's put then the back-up, back-up plan is the south coast - London - East Anglia

We have booked for June so hopefully parents won't take their kids out of schools early this year as they have missed so much anyway. But yes, we wouldn't go near the place in July and August. In fact we are thinking about doing the opposite and going on a city tour up to Northumberland (Cardiff - Birmingham - York - Durham - Northumberland - Liverpool - Hereford).

Doom and gloom in the Sunday Times yesterday regarding foreign travel this summer due to the EU countries being so far behind with their jabs plus possible third wave. It mentions the likelihood that 10 day quarantine period could still be in place.

We are thinking about Italy in Sept or south of France if not. Failing that it will be a tour of the north of England I think: York - Northumberland - Liverpool.

I just bolted another 7 nights on to our 4 night trip in April. So that's Pembrey for 4 nights followed by Newport (Pembrokeshire) for 7 nights.

With trips booked in May and June, this year is shaping up nicely now. Just July/August to sort out now.

Haven't been away since December so looking forward to it bounce

July/August all booked now: 24 nights touring north Wales. bounce

Just waiting on developments in Italy and France to see whether we can get over there in September. My gut feel is that its 50/50 at the mo. frown

Got back from our first trip away on Friday. the weather was spot on and it was great to be away in the MH. We went to Pembrey Country Park and then on to Newport (Pembs).

We enjoyed it so much we booked an impromptu 4 night break again at Pembrey from the 3rd May biggrin

We had our last trip to Cardiff and Cirencester (to see friends and family) cut short as Mrs O was taken ill.

Recovered now and this Friday we are off to Cheltenham - Cornwall - Devon - Malmesbury for our first longer trip away this year (23 nights).

Fingers crossed that this nice weather holds for at least a decent chunk of it!

@Eric MC - nice photos - thanks for sharing thumbup

Just back from 23 nights away in Cornwall and Devon. Great break but was amazed at how many kids of school age were there when it was definitely not half term! Over 50a t one stage at one campsite. Poor parenting (and in some case, grandparenting) I reckon: haven't they missed enough schooling???

Anyway, 2.5 weeks to go until our next trip: 26 nights touring north Wales biggrin

Just back yesterday from 23 nights touring north Wales. Just ploughing through the mound of dirty washing now.

Cracking trip with mostly great weather. saw and did loads plus had plenty of downtime. Walked up Snowdon on the day that 2 women were airlifted off after being struck by lightening!! We were at the summit 1 hour before it happened and it doesn't surprise me as the weather was atrocious.

Off to Cirencester next Sunday for 8 nights to catch up with friends/family; then back hone for a week until we head off on BH Monday for a 34 nighter touring northern England (in the main). It's not Italy but it'll do....
