Change qualifying

As things stand now, the results of a F1 race are largely determined by qualifying.

You need rain to spice things up which doesn't happen often enough.

What would happen if every team was guaranteed one race per season where they would start on the front row as long as they were within 7% of the fastest car?

What would happen if every team was guaranteed one race per season where they had to start at the back of the pack?

In major sports, the team that wins the trophy gets the last draft pick. Is there something similar that can be done to make the racing more compelling?

The races are too predictable--except when it rains or when a top driver must start at the back of the grid for any number of reasons and has to work his way up grid.

I guess my biggest beef is the race is largely won in qualifying--why watch the race? As things stand, I DVR the race, read the race summary, watch the first lap and speed through to see if anything compelling happened in the race.

The result was as I predicted.

How about awarding points to concede 10 positions? You get pole but in exchange for starting 11th you get 5 points plus your race result. You get 10th in qualifying but starting 20th gets you 5 points.

My beef is the race result is essentially determined Saturday with the race being pre-ordained--unless it rains or mechanical issues.

Top 1, 2, 3 in qualifying finish 1, 2, 3--same order as qualifying.

The potential of f1 is immense. If the race is effectively qualifying, the actual race is anti-climatic. I doubt f1 wants that.
