Alonso comeback

He's not gone yet but in the future could Alonso make a successful return? Do drivers lose that superhuman ability once out of regular F1 racing?
A lesson seems to come from Shumacher's comeback where you were pretty happy to see him back and keen for it to work but he never really showed that well.
Was looking for the stats and found JA had helpfully done an article.

Nobody will ever catch up.For that to happen the teams at the front have to stand still.
Its a bit like the special class at school.Those kids wont catch up they will just be made to feel valued at a lower speed.
If all the teams were given a lower spec to attain then maybe Mclaren and Renault have the capability to attain the new lower requirement.
At the end of this process maybe 5-6 teams can win. Could take many years and by then a rotund Alonso will be contented elsewhere. I guess.

Joe Saward needs to see a doctor.

Saward is no fool or armchair blogger; he knows the paddock, TPs and many drivers and has been to every race for 20+ years.

Alonso being a genius driver, and not being quite the same since 2007 are not mutually exclusive statements.

On any given race day, he may also extract the most possible from the car.

Alonso is genius but flawed. Hamilton is genius with less of the destructive tendencies that Alonso has demonstrated since 2007.

Alonso might not be the same after 2007 - but it's pure conjecture to suggest it's because Hamilton beat him - a lot happened that year surrounding Alonso and McLaren.

He was quite young at that stage and it was probably the first time in his career he felt he had been dealt a bad hand. No doubt you would approach the world a bit differently.
I would think anyone that has had a job and some life experience would have had a bad result at some stage
that changed them a bit.
Doesnt seem to have affected his driving as he could easy have had several titles in the ferrari.
All the best drivers will have an atttude and lets not forget senna and schumacher were incredibly selfish.
In the present day Verstappen is pretty obnoxious and seems to get a free pass due to his age.
Sadly the internet gives equal voice to everyone and you probably find yourself reasoning with some kid sat in thier festering bedroom a lot of the time lol.

I can see Alonso coming back to Ferrari if the following happens.
Vettel doesn't win the title between now and end of 2020 season.
Leclerc not doing it either.
The average age of a ferrari owner would have gone up more by then. These people dont identiry with foul mouthed kids.
They want someone like themselves to stick it to the youth for their own personal validation.
Roll on the 2021 season.

Like a film with nobody you ever heard of starring few bother watching.
People wont care about newbies if they are trundling around in the lower places unless the sport changes dramatically.
In that case Alonso could come back to many teams.
Its actually immature and deranged to want less talent on the grid just for some personally armchair grunge.

He will be back. He only left because mclaren were rubbish with no hope for the future.

Cant think of a driver of that calibre that sat on the sidelines while they could win and cant think of a team that knows its cars a winner that would rather run two poor performers all season if an unencumbered alonso was sat at home.

Except Alonso has been available for the last 3 years and in that time the 3 fastest teams have all ignored him when seats were free.

He has not been available.He has been at mclaren existing on empty promises. For all the hate directed at him he has stayed loyal to their feeble efforts to give him a fast car.
Nobody had a flippin fast car anyway apart from mercedes and I doubt he was that keen to join another team that wasn't top 3 before a wheel has turned for next year.
A couple of races elapse next year and a team for example haas see from telemetry that they have been running as fast as
Mercedes but due to thier drivers crashing out of going off the boil at key moments they have 4 points from a possible 70.
Time to get on to the phone and make an appointment for friday morning.
What sort of team owner would waste money just muddling around the midfield instead of winning.(maybe stroll senior)
You have to be an insider at the crappy mclaren effort to not see the logic.

Only mercedes and ferrari are in a title fight. redbull won the odd race. redbull are all about selling soft drinks to young kids and clubbers. Alonso was a bit old for that scene. Even riciarrdo and sainz are just not fresh faced enough and have been marginalized.
Yes there are many excellent drivers in F1.They will all be under contract next year and no doubt the year after.He wont.
Its about one team or a few breaking the stranglehold. People only have the top 3 in their thick heads how.
Its amazing that people have accepted a top 3 and a tier 2 of also rans so easily.
F1 seems to exist just for watercooler bragging nowadays..

Vettel has seemed a bit off lately and you wonder whats on his mind.
Is there a break clause with his contract if he doesn't deliver a certain level of performance this year?
Could we see Alonso back in the Ferrari next year?
Do the 2019 F1 dates clash with WEC and the Indy 500?

If he was allowed into GP2 he could say GP2 engine! but they went and called it F2.
