An evening race for us Europeans!

Fantastic track completed in 2012, wonderful technical sector one (like maggots/becketts or even the Suzuka ‘s’ wind direction will be key here for qualifying). High speed sector 2 and a Hockenheim style sector 3.

Plenty of challenge for the drivers.

Lewis Hamilton has won here 5/6 yrs and if he wins here it will be 5 wins in a row at COTA, equaling Sennas 5 in a row at Monaco.

With concerts from Bruno Mars and Britney Spears, this should be a great weekend for anyone attending!

Enjoy!

Thanks for posting.

Glad it’s live on free-to-air TV.

If it’s a normal race, it’s hard to see the win going to anyone but Hamilton. In the past we have seen him wobble at the point of closing the title, but I can’t see that happening this year.
Penultimate as they say for free to air UK TV (apart from GB GP for 2019)...Abu Dhabi then what we are willing to pay for..

Why is qualifying so late compared to the race?
The race is much earlier than would normally be expected for a race in the Americas. They’ve obviously moved it to Sunday Lunchtime for us Europeans.
Most of the races are local time 1/2 pm (exception to night races).

Quli, no idea? Any other big sporting events on stateside this weekend?

I don’t think of the Mercedes F1 team as German. The engines are designed and built not far from where I live. The team HQ is a short drive down the A43. The Germans just pay for everything.
I agree.

Until they switch the national anthem from German to British, Merc F1 will be portrayed as German.

Currently it's factually inaccurate and somewhat misleading to the audience.
They would need to switch the racing licence to a GB/UK one.

Lets be fair, employment "social" costs and R & D tax credits (and other associated benefits) in the UK are amongst the fairest (and most attractive) in the world, if your going to invest very large sums of money (9 figs +) doing it here (uk) with less social costs, and getting back additional R & D tax credits is advantageous.

Alain Prost remarked on the podcast a few weeks ago that his Liger team (french based) and Mclaren (uk based) had roughly the same budget, but Mclaren could fund 600 employees rather than 200 employees, such were the state employment contributions.

It a good reason why most of the teams are actually (or have operations) in the UK, (on top of having world class engineers too)!

It's not a problem if you're not trying to cheat.
Track designer gives an Astro run off, FIA put in a speed bump, though track limits were the white painted line.

And this is why it's needed

Excessive to me, the 5 second time penalty max got was more in line of the crime of exceeding track limits & overtaking.

Can’t remember what the ride heights are on these cars but the bumps are circa 50mm high.. at 270kph they’ll be airborne..

I thought the track limits said you had to have one wheel inside the white line. It looks quite possible to be within the track limits by that definition and still hit that bump. Not that that's really a problem as long as the drivers know it's there any more than a wall which you can hit without leaving the track is.
Me too, these have been placed all over the track including the exit of turn one, where almost everyone goes wide on lap one.

Do you understand the concept of a deterrent? If the drivers know that these things are there and they will cause a painful/damaging airborne moment then they should be able to avoid running off track so far.

Personally I'd rather they got rid of all this smooth tarmac runoff, so the temptation to continually run wide onto it is removed completely.
Yes but the run offs are there rightfully to avoid high speed collisions, wrongfully drivers may abuse the limits, time penalty as are the answers here, this could be easily tracked by GPS.

& personally I agree remove the Astro put grass in or bigger/abrasive curbs, temporary measures are not the answer, I fear we will see someone wheel to wheel at high speed and some one ‘closes the door’ to put someone into one of these.

Not yet Moose.

1st free practice we should find out.

But with the classe ‘b’ or formula 1.5 battle at its closest it’s unlikely that anyone will take a tactical.

Although there are rumours that Renault want to run the c spec, so we will see.

Good to see Ferrari still pushing, even after they gave up in Japan. Wonder if it's something for 2019?
Unfortunately no pics underneath (we will need a crash and a ride on the tele handler for that).

Let’s see if it gets through scrutiny.
