Everyone has an opinion on the currently available Williams seat, but I haven't heard anybody yet say that they want Sergey to stay.

I feel a bit sorry for Sergey. He has been completely off the radar all season, quietly (and to be honest, narrowly) out-performing the much maligned Lance Stroll. I noticed that on the Sky Brazilian Grand Prix qualifying he didn't even get a name check during the grid rundown. I didn’t notice anybody else being skipped.

What little coverage I have seen has praised Sergey. He has really committed to Williams, he spends more time at the factory than probably any other driver and is very switched on technically. He also seems to have a good attitude and hasn’t done anything silly on track all season.

He also brought a st ton of money which surely helps.

To those who will point out that Stroll has scored six times more points than Sirotkin, I’d say the points are misleading and you should look at qualifying and race performance across the season.

I dunno. Opinions? I can’t say I’d rather have Ocon on the bench, and the Kubica fairytale has a certain appeal, but we’re lead to believe that Sirotkin is still firmly in the frame and has not been discussed at all?

Stroll scored four of his six points in Baku at the beginning of the season, before Sauber and Toro Rosso disappeared up the road. The Williams drivers then finished 9th and 10th at Monza with Lance ahead of Sergey.

The Williams has got relatively worse over the season as all other teams except perhaps Mclaren have out-developed them.

I have been keeping an eye on them and the pace is very close but Sirotkin has looked more consistent and towards the end of the season, faster- but of course the car isn’t a point scoring car anymore.

You could correctly argue that there is little to separate the two drivers- were it not for the fact that this was Sergey’s debut season in F1 while Lance had a full season under his belt already plus the extensive in-season testing. You can be sure that with the money Lawrence brought to the team, every advantage which can be bought, has been. That is the Stroll way.

I have so far disregarded the two drivers’ contrasting attitudes. I wonder if anyone will disagree with me when I suggest Stroll is a mardy entitled fker and Sirotkin the much more professional.

Do you have any actual evidence of this? Or do you just hate Stroll because he has a rich father, compared to Sirotkin having rich businesses behind him?
Stroll doesn't get any special treatment from me, I base my views on what I see and hear and would invite you to compare and contrast the two driver's radio messages during practice, qualifying and race over this season.

What is "the Stroll way" then?
Ask anyone who had anything to do with the 2016 FIA Formula 3 European Championship.

He seems like a fairly good plodder to me. No real glimpses of excellence, but steady.
Is it possible to display excellence in a 2018 Williams, and if you did would anyone notice?
Quite...

Would've rather have seen Kubica get Stroll's seat and Sirotkin stay put. But I can't see Williams fielding two inexperienced guys after this season.
I am quite excited about George Russell. Obviously they could've picked a better Russell, but George is still pretty good. But then I want Ocon to stay and Kubica to get a drive.

The conclusion must be that 10 teams fielding 20 cars is not enough. The talent is out-stripping the supply of seats.

Journos are beginning to report that Robert has been given the choice of Williams race drive vs. Ferrari development position and are speculating that he has chosen Williams.

Bad news for Sergey, another driver who will leave the sport without ever having shown what he can really do.

A cynic would suggest that with a Russian GP they will find a way to have a Russian driver somewhere in the paddock...
Well with Kvyat in the Toro Rosso they have that box ticked. Really hope Sergey hangs sticks around.
Is that some kind of Russian tradition?

I guess so but I see Stroll as being a bit of a blocker (like a hospital bed blocker). Low on talent but only getting a seat over more talented drivers because his dad owns a team. No team would pick Stroll over Ocon based on talent alone.
I am by no means a Stroll fan but I'm not sure you could reasonably describe him as 'low on talent'. He did, at the end of the day, win Euro F3 (yes, with caveats)- and while it was obvious that he visibly wasn't ready for F1 in 2017 against Felipe Massa, I think it's much harder to gauge his performance this season.

The margin by which Perez beats him next season will allow everybody to re-assess if necessary.

Obv you'd pick Ocon over Stroll based on talent alone...

I'm sure I read somewhere that Robert Kubica was in the frame for this season, but couldn't bring as much sponsorship as SS.

But now RK comes with more funding, and SS with less - so it's RK for next season!

I just hope next season's Williams car is less of a dog - they are using Mercedes engines after all, and Force India have shown what can be achieved with them!

A couple of seasons ago Williams were pretty competitive at fast circuits - this year they haven't been competitive anywhere.

Even McLaren with what Fernando described as F2 power have ended the season way ahead of them!
Williams had Stroll and Sirotkin, McLaren had Alonso... who, incidentally, never said any such thing about the Renault PU.
