Leclerc, Vettel & Ferrari 2019

Personally I cannot wait to see how this is going to play out next season! Just the thought of it makes me feed a bit giddy with excitement.

Leclerc - has enjoyed a hugely impressive 2018 campaign delivering some incredible drives, and points finishes for Sauber. Undoubtably a super star of the future, and in my opinion he has demonstrated this season that he possess all the qualities of a World Champion in the making.

Vettel - 4x world champion, and clearly the number 1 Ferrari driver for 2018. This year Vettel has sometimes struggled under pressure, making some mistakes which ultimately have contributed to him losing the championship for him and his employer.

Ferrari - Had a car and driver lineup that could/should have won both titles for 2018. The untimely the death of Sergio Marchionne destabilised the team more than was reported in the press, but once regrouped, they will more focussed on it next year. You can see it in the eyes of Arrivabene...

Add all of this together and it is going to make unmissable sporting entertainment...

The big one, is obviously what is going to happen if Leclerc out performs Vettel. How will that all play out?

Where would Vettel go?

I guess that would depend on the performance of maybe the two RedBull drivers as to whether he would be welcome back there?

What other options would he have?

I'm sure the Board of Mercedes would love a German driver in the F1 team....
Oust Bottas and replace with Vettel. Wonder what the pairing of Hamilton and Vettel would be like.... I dont think Vettel could ever take being effectively a number 2....

Don’t think you can write him off yet, he will outscore LeClerc comfortably I think.
Definitely not writing him off. You cant write off a 4 time world champion, but I am just excited to see it all unfold.....

Not only that, but he's Monagesque, don't you know? wink
What? Really? Why on earth does nobody ever mention this!?
It certainly wasn't mentioned in the Autosport article which I read today about him topping the times at the Abu Dhabi testing!!!

(It was mentioned at the start of the second paragraph)
I am glad that it isn't just me who noticed this. It was hilarious when I first noticed it and every time I discussed him with my mates we would hilariously, if not childishly, question where he was from and come up with obscure places beginning with M. (My favourite being Mozambique)

I just started to think his name was "The Young Monegasque Driver Charles Leclerc"

Leclerc will undoubtably have his work cut out to out perform Vettel over the entire season, but the prospect of seeing how it all unfolds is exciting.

The 2019 season is probably one of the most exciting seasons to look forward to for a long time. Not only the Leclerc vs Vettel, but also the arrival of Norris, Russel and Kubica back in a race seat, not to mention Danill Kyvat being back at Toro Rosso for the 3rd time!

Agreed. 2019 will be a classic. Don’t forget Gasly! Could be a surprise.
Oops! Yes, Gasly has been impressive this year and thoroughly wiped the floor with (the sometimes unlucky) Hartley. Will be interesting to see how he works alongside Verstappen next year.

I'd love to see him get the better of Max...

You raise an interesting point, whilst I agree that Leclerc is a major talent, how many drivers on the 2019 grid have paid for themselves to be there rather than be talented enough to get there on talent alone?

Thats true, you cant just rock up with billions and get a seat, you have to have amounted a certain number of points etc to have a super license so everyone has to have some form of talent...

It's just interesting sat here trying to think of a handful of drivers who have got to F1 without a lot of money, like the old days
