The iconic figure of eight returns!

35th Japanese GP!

The track gives a shake down and an examination of any car and set up, aero efficiency is key in the first half of the lap, while the second puts the emphasis on horse power (+KW!), it contains a pretty even distribution of corners from low speed to high speed turns.

To cope with the huge lateral loads Pirelli brings its three hardest compounds.

Pole has traditionally give a 50% chance of winning, although since the turn of the century its roughly 2/3 rds.

Since the return here in 2009 only two teams have taken pole, Red Bull & Mercedes, and winning the race Red Bull & Mercedes & Mclaren (2011).

Red Bull have struggled with car set up on circuits with high curbs (and bumps), the front wing adjustment they have to make is causing quali problems, if they get it right they may contend.

Mercedes, masters of the corners and corner exit speeds, I can see a 1/2 here, especially if they can shed some downforce.

Ferrari, huge advantage on the back straight with the top end speed, Seb may surprise with a pole and win.

Midfield, I expect Renault to win this battle, but the Racing Point all round ability may put them up into good points scoring territory.

If Quali is cancelled (likely for Saturday, they could run Sunday) the the grid will form as per number of car.

Or they run quali on Sunday morning, which is what they did the last time Japan quali was a washout iirc (2007 I think).

ETA; I misread your post - didn't see that you mentioned running it on Sunday. I doubt they would line up by car number; I think that was an old contingency from when cars were numbered based on the previous year's results? Otherwise poor Antonio will be ruing choosing 99!

Yep that rule is still in place Danni Ric (3) and Lando (4) front row...biglaugh

Edit, there is one car that can change there number hehe to a number 1 and take pole!

Thanks to a teething 2 year old, I will probably be watching this one live!

F1 on the laptop, Peppa Pig/Hey Duggee/Frozen on the ipad...

Hey Duggee definitely needs his Pay Driver badge. Woof woof (apols to those without small kids)
Snap, 11 month old, the 4 yr old will be up for the race though (she likes the cars).. Duggee & the squirrels are the best and any one in there late 30,s early 40,s really needs to watch “stick”

On another note it looks like (they will be talking about this tomorrow on the tv)..

2 points..

Quali race for France, Russia & Spa!

100km + 1 Lap sprint race, no need to pit (but you could if you wanted too).

Drivers line up in reverse championship order from the previous race.

Penalties will be ‘missed’ for the quali race and still applied for the starting grid of the GP.

Interestingly Merc have already run a simulation and they say they would be looking at gaining a maximum of 5 places under normal racing conditions.

&

2021 regulations need to be in place in 2 weeks time, only Williams, Alfa, Renault & McLaren in favour at the moment.
