Round 11 and we’re in Germany for the 2020 Eifel Grand Prix at the Nürburgring. Not the 20km ring but the race circuit.

There will be up to 20,000 spectators

Rumours that Pirelli are bringing snow tyres are untrue, but the weather could through up some uncertainty.

Vaud, it would be helpful if you'd let me know you were putting the thread up, I've just spent 20 mins doing it.
Apologies. I didn't know that it was your intent to post for all of 2020... I've posted in previous seasons as have others. I will bow out for the rest of the season.

For those not following the wider F1 forum, this weekend may be dominated by the news that Honda are quitting at the end of 2021.

My gut says those are1 tyre too hard.

But I guess nothing will work, if the weathers crap. Go softer and take the C1 and it will cold-grain to st. Go harder and take the C5 and no one will use it.

There’s really no way to tell what the tyres will do - what’s the coldest track temp seen in the Pirelli era?

Freezing?

Fair enough, I probably should have been more explicit - what’s the coldest race track temp? Not practice or quali, but race?
Canada 1978 according to F1 records at -5c.

Someone on reddit mentioned a more recent Canadian race (in the last 10 years) that was 8c but I can't find it.

Wow - that would be funny! -5!

I genuinely think Northern Europe at this time of year is a mistake - a number of Italian and French circuits available. Double header at Turkey.

This may end up making F1 look silly.

Alright......sillier.
I don't know, I'm quite enjoying this season.

Would that be constrained by the helicopter?

whoever thought that a Grand Prix in the German mountains in October was going to be unaffected by the weather? Ho hum.
I think everyone thought it was a risk, but one worth taking?

It seems ridiculous that F1, being super weather critical these days, would choose to go to a track which at this time of year is likely to have inclement weather.. Either adjust the helicopter rule or don't go to the track..
I don't think they can adjust the helicopter rule due to the potential for liability.

Sort of reminds me of Silverstone of old with a muddy field and a solitary portaloo.

At least if FP3 and quali plus the race does take place at least they won't need to worry about having enough tyres. As a matter of interest what tyres do they start on if quali is wet but the race is dry?
Free choice, I think.

How have Stroll and Racing Point managed to get themselves into a situation where they have a driver going into qually cold with just three hours of prep in the garage? Must’ve been a very late communication from Stroll.
Maybe he was taken ill quickly... it does happen.

Very much enjoying the bog-in-bog cam. Has anybody been spotted using the facilities yet?
According to Autosport, if he had raced then Stroll might have been parking up to use it...

Shouldn't Portimao be on that map or is F1 not going there now?

Yas Marina is on the map but Portimao isn't?

A marina is on the map and a racing circuit isn't?

It's not a circuit list, just major cities.

I will never understand the love in for Kimi. Hasn't impressed me as a driver in over a decade. Needs to retire and make way for someone young and fast.
Well the team principal has access to much more data than us, so do you think he is retained out of blind loyalty?

I think they are being ultra risk averse this year.

There was no risk after one lap of the SC. They've just ensured the top 5 or so are on cold tyres = more risk.

I thought they always brought a SC out if there's a car fire. Part of their SOPs.
at what point is the car on fire? a little bit of smoke from oil? a soaked out engine? or actual flames?
The team knew the issue was fuel burning into the exhaust so presumably informed the FIA and would help with understanding the risk?
