Merry Christmas one and all.

Just sitting here, drinking a glass of Pomerol and watching the turkey cook, and googling my favourite old F1 cars. Funny how they stick in my mind more than drivers. I'll post some of my favourites below- please share yours and why.

1986 FW11- Power.

1989 F640- Just look at it!

1989 B189- so nimble, beautiful V8 racer against V10 and V12 monsters

Some of my favourites already posted - the Williams Honda FW11, Ferrari 640 and McLaren Honda MP4/4, so a more unusual one:

March 881.

Newey's first F1 car - amazingly capable and slippery.

Man alive, that 881 is incredible. I don't think it got it's due credit at the time for the jump it was. Beautiful.

MP4/4,
What a car! I always preferred the look of the naturally aspirated cars- MP4/6 in particular. Looked so purposeful, and the sound!

Brawn BGP-001 - for the 'underdog' backstory
I love the story about when the Jenson and the team turned up late at the second pre-season test late, went 1 sec faster than anyone else and realised what a car they had on their hands.

All the obvious ones are done. Here's a not so obvious one:

Loved the ingenuity of the F-duct, the driver pairing and the livery. And 2010 was a great season.
Great photo

I have always had a strange love for the FW13. Newey didn't seem to rate it much in his book, but there is something about its shape that appeals:

Also the Tyrrell 020- the team's last big chance with proper sponsorship, Honda V10, Modena driving it and it all went wrong. IIRC Honda V10 was much heavier than expected and it liked a drink, Modena was very up and down.

Beautiful car though, but it was all downhill from here:

Last odd-ball- 1989 Brabham BT58- just for the clean lines and livery. At least it looked fast!

I do find modern F1 a bit meh, cars too big, too heavy, too much aero.

Hard to find a better small, light car than the MP4/8- perfection.

My favourite is the 1989 Williams FW12C. Basically it was an evolution of the 1988 FW12 which had the Judd V8. The only car in 1989 to take pole (Patrese) other than a McLaren. Lovely looking thing, always loved this colour scheme on a Williams.

Oh great choice! I saw the FW12 race, but not the 12C. Stunning car.

Always liked this Paintjob. Donnelly was one of those 'what if' drivers. Surely as good a driver as the island of Ireland ever produced.
I've met him once or twice, seemed a nice guy, I hope his health improves.

I like the livery, but always preferred its big brother:

All good cars. I’m glad the Tyrrell Honda 020 is getting some love, it was a beautiful car.

Anyone have a soft spot for a Lotus 107/107B? I had such high hopes this would address the slide, and such a pretty car, but no.

In some respects, I don't know why either, 1998/1999 were my favourite years for F1.

I'd have been 11 years old around this time, and while it was an absolute dog of a car, the Prost AP02 to me was a beautiful car.

I agree- lovely looking thing

They don't do much for me- as effective as they were, Ferraris of that era just look a bit meh to me. I'd say the 412 knocks it into a box:

Not a great car but..

Also the Prost AP02 and the Renault R25/26 as mentioned.
and Ford allegedly paid Eddie Irvine £10m to drive it! Mad decision in a mad Jaguar plan. Nice neat car though.

I think it's fair to say that the modern cars look quite big, because they kind of are, but then so did some of the much older F1 cars.

The thing with the latest cars is the details, some are details are delicate and wonderful, but they can all add up to look a little fussy.

This is the best ever looking F1 car in my opinion, nothing else comes close.

That is a stunner, no doubt about it.

It's either the FW14 for me, or the MP4/8. You can see here how small it is compared to today's monsters.
