Hi all. We're coming into the new car season and I thought we could use a thread for the cars when they appear. Most will be similar to last year, but McLaren, Ferrari and Aston Martin all seem to be saying that there will be plenty new to look at.

Here's the team launch dates as announced so far:

We’re coming into a new season with so many suggestions as to how things may be changed. Salaries come into discussion so why don’t we have a maximum salary for a F1 driver from his or her team including sponsors deals and then they can make up their salary from other championship races, ie. Indy, Le Mans, BYCV, etc.
Graham Hill and Jim Clarke had to, so why not Lewis ?
Thanks Tazar, although we're aiming for a slightly anorak/nerdy 2021 new car discussion here hehe

Don’t think so, same papaya orange with maybe a few more sponsors.

Expecting a whole new back end though.

A back end that looks remarkably similar to last year’s Mercedes, by any chance?

They apparently spent tens of millions on that horizontal rear suspension last year, I’d be amazed if McLaren, Williams and Racing Point don’t all have a version of it on the ‘21 car.
Will be too early for Williams- still using it's own (outdated) gearbox in 2021. Aston and McLaren's rears will be near identical to last year's Merc I should imagine.

Did anyone else watch the McLaren car launch? Was it just me picking up a bit of needle between lando and Danny ric?
It’s all a bit awkward, but I’m not seeing any needle

Best view. Looks to be a good job of packaging the Merc hardware.

It is a shame that they have to have the massive floor on the ground plane and can't make the floor the same size as the body.
I'm certain the aerodynamicists really love having the big as possible floor smile

I know what you mean though. Racing cars used to look a lot prettier than they do now.
Thank John Bernard and the MP4/1 coke bottle effect which started the trend. More space=more airflow= lower pressure at the diffuser= more downforce

I like the Alfa- something new going on with its nose I think. Also thinner than last year's car.

No special testing camo livery. 100% less Aston Martin logos hehe
I can literally see no changes at all

Not a bad looking machine.

Nice livery, but that airbox behind the drivers head is huge! I guess they have moved cooling from the side pods up to the airbox, like Mercedes has done for a while

Livery looks really smart. I like how they always manage to freshen it up a little without losing the identity of previous designs.

Anyone know what the two bulges are in the engine shroud? Looks unusual.
Changes made to the PU require it, i suspect it's to give clearance to a change in exhaust routing and turbine design.
I think it's just because they have shrink wrapped the rear end.

Commercial reality. Spending no money on 2021, taking pay drivers and betting the farm on 2022.

Damn that Williams is devoid of sponsors, what on earth is going wrong there?
Delayed reaction due to the results for the last several years? They did come last again last season...

Also, is it fair to say the team is simply a little less special/interesting now the family connection is gone?
I've been a Williams supporter since early '93, it's most definitely! a passion. The last few years have been extremely, incredibly painful, no question. Whilst I would have loved the family to have retained control, fighting their way back to the front, I'll just be happy to see them head back to the sharp end by any genuinely competitive means neccessary. It won't be "quite" the same, not as special. But if they're heading back to the front, I'll take it!
I don't think its too much to worry about. Williams are now backed by an investment firm, so have resources to fall back on even without sponsors. It's all about 2022, if the team could push the fast forward button for this season, it would. I'd expect more sponsors (and a better car) next year.

But that paint job is minging.
