Alex Jacques Must Go!
Discussion
New commentator on F1 - Just awful.
Random over emphasis of words and over excitement from the word go.
Alex Jacques and Jonathon Legard make you realise how good the likes of Ben Edwards and the late great Murray really were.
I ended up watching the qually without the sound on.
Anyone else feel the same or just me?

So, Murray Walker didn’t over emphasis certain words and get over excited...... is that really your argument here....? Alex Jacques and Jonathon Legard make you realise how good the likes of Ben Edwards and the late great Murray really were
Murray talked an awful lot of crap at times. Loved him, but he was exactly as you described. At times infuriating with some awful come Tati g that was verging on gobbledygook at times. RIP Murray always MR F1.
I wanted to like him but from the moment he opened his mouth he was trying WAY too hard and it grated.
May be that's the way that's the way the demographic they want to attract like their F1 but for someone approaching their 50th year of watching F1 it just comes across as dumbed down and trying too hard. Anyone that makes Billy monger sound good cannot be great.
I'll try listening to him for the race but I'm not optimistic it won't grate too much to stand.

Hi all. Long time lurker, annoyed enough to post!
I notice more and more these days, TV presenters thinking everything they say has to be "announced" and copying the same unnatural patterns of word emphasis from one another.
Alex Jacques in qualifying took it to extremes. Every sentence was presented in that announcer's voice. There was nothing natural about his manner of speaking at all.
Channel 4's more "fun" presenting style, compared to Sky, has often been commented on as a strength. If Alex settles in and can chat enthusiastically, even conversationally, then he'll fit the team, but yesterday's style was far too jarring. Like being hit over the head with words.
Hit the nail on the head there.I notice more and more these days, TV presenters thinking everything they say has to be "announced" and copying the same unnatural patterns of word emphasis from one another.

Even Mrs TT said he sounded like an amateur radio DJ.

DC has been in & around the Paddock for almost 30 years, both as a competitor & in a journalistic capacity. Alex is new to the job, probably been working toward it for years & this is his big break, that brings pressure. DC will have been there, done that, been scrutinised in microscopic detail every fortnight for 15 (competitve) years, he now knows everyone & is probably wealthy enough to do as much or as little of anything as he wants. There's no pressure or real expectation on him, of course he's laid back! Two different Men at opposing ends of their lives & careers.
Alex is a young Guy, mere months into a new job under a huge spotlight, it's only the third race of the year, give him a fair crack of the Whip. For what it's worth, I quite like Alex, he's settling down nicely.
Still just as JARRING with his random and ABSOLUTELY unwarranted stress on words for no APPARRENT reason. Totally unnecessary and very unnatural commentary style. Trying too hard IMHO.Alex is a young Guy, mere months into a new job under a huge spotlight, it's only the third race of the year, give him a fair crack of the Whip. He's not new to commentary. If he was I might be able to accept his style short term but he must know.
I could barely understand Lawrence Barretto with his mask on at times this week.
Anyway I've found a way to see the live race with the Sky commentary (not much better but definitely better) so I'm out.

All these commentators that everyone think must go, whichever one it is.
Why don't you watch a different sport or turn the sound off?
I can honestly say none of them bother me if they get a bit excited, if you don't get animated by a sport maybe it's not for you?
So you've not read the thread then? Why don't you watch a different sport or turn the sound off?
