Round 9 and we’re back in Canada after a two-year hiatus. It’s a great circuit but it will be good to get back to some permanent race circuits soon. I’ve a feeling that the circuit will suit the RB18 down to the ground, and Ferrari will need to be on its game (both performance and reliability) to avoid another walk over.

It will be interesting to see if Ricciardo can keep up the glimmer of a recovery, and whether Hamilton can get on terms with Russell in qualifying. For Channel 4 viewers, be warned it’s a late one.

I’ve narrowed the poll down a bit to take up less space, now we have a better idea of who has a chance. Here’s to a great race!

Date(s): Friday 17 to Sunday 19 June 2022.

UK Broadcast Timings (and local time)

All sessions are live on Sky F1. Qualifying and the race are shown as highlights on Channel 4.

Thanks for the thread OP. Can I make a small suggestion please? Can the championship standings be included in future race posts? It would be handy to have the info readily available to see how the upcoming race can effect the order of things.
Good suggestion, will do smile

In a timely move, Ferrari has strengthened its floor:

Credit to the FIA for taking the decision

Yup, no different than all the years Mercedes designed the best car and walked both titles. To me it looks like the margin this year will end up being similar to Mercedes' most dominant years. It will be mildly interesting to see how the Redbull fans who whined about Mercedes dominance, and the Mercedes fans who defended it, react now the shoe is on the other foot.

Anyone who changes their stance because of which team is dominating is going to look really, really moronic but I get the feeling I could have a pretty good guess at who will, on both sides. smile

Unlike the Merc years, the engines are all now quite similar so any RB advantage should be whittled away quite quickly over the next year or two.

I think the last thing Liberty, the FIA, or the fans in general want is another period of domination by one team. I wouldn't be surprised if plans are being formulated to somehow level the playing field for the latter half of the season or early next.

I'm no fan of how Red Bull goes about its business, but it would be completely wrong for them to be penalised for producing the best car on the grid, imo, so I'm glad the FIA are managing the risk the way they are, even if that is to the detriment of one of my favoured teams.

The teams that are struggling with porpoising to the point where it's dangerous will have to suck it up and sort their st out as far as I'm concerned.
Ferrari has had the last 4 pole positions and has yet to win; I don't think you'd call RB dominant

Mercedes has cut a scientifically calibrated whopping great big hole in Hamilton's floor to try to control the porpoising.

While Christian is able to justify his own teams failings to stick within the cost cap (projected failing) What is very eloquent and slippery answer didn’t explain why have three other teams maintained that they are able to stick within the cost cap While faced with exactly the same inflationary pressures as he is.

I guess it’s like building a car that doesn’t porpoise or bounce why should the teams that have accomplished that be penalised by the teams that haven’t… yet that’s exactly what he wants re budget cap. Not to mention it would be in season change which he is wholly against..

Just like he was really really against The introduction of the party mode ban that also happened to be in season..
Because those teams originally set out to spend way less than the budget cap?

So on Sky, Wolff 'apoplectic' in a meeting and arguing with other team bosses. What meeting was this?
I guess the meeting where other teams accused Merc of cheating, having rocked up to the GP with their extra floor stays all ready to go, despite this only being announced on Thursday.

Well, he's in the top 3 of the bottom 5, if that helps?
How did they stuff that up?
