How To Prepare For An MOT - Self Service Manuals?

I'm after a manual/book (online or offline) which tells me precisely what needs to be checked prior to submitting a car for an MOT. I've started servicing my vehicle (Ford Ranger) this year and have enjoyed the process (and monetary savings) to date. But I'm not sure of everything which is required for an MOT.

Anyone have any recommendations?

That's what I'm after, but something which is easier to navigate (preferably a PDF) and maybe includes illustrations where useful?
