Need a car to do some towing with, but it needs to be economical for day to day driving (when not towing).

It will be towing a twin axled car trailer with up to around 2T of car on it.

Was going to go for a Land Rover of some sorts as an obvious choice, but are there any others that would be up to the job but cheaper to run?

Would like something fairly smart too if possible.

I've a friend with a Rav 4 for example, he can get 40-50mpg, though I don't know if it would be up to the towing task.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Yeh think I'm going to have to go for a 4x4, doesn't sound like there's much other option.

I think LPG is a false economy given the effeciency of it.

It doesn't have to be my only car, but doing the sums makes having one car cheaper than having two. Insurance is the main factor, I'm not ever so old.

Haha no problem with being nosey, it would just be picking cars up from around the country to sell.

Budget isn't too important, at the moment I'm swinging towards a range rover sport.

Would a flat bed be expensive to insure and run? Option I hadn't thought about really. Also have the added bonus of not having a trailer around that's easily nicked.

Cheers

TBH our (yes other end of spectrum) Trooper gets more of less the same mileage driving around with or without a trailer / horse in the back.....
I want a something smart and so don't mind paying for it, but I don't want to piss cash away on fuel on a trip to the shops. Yes?

Passed my test after 97 but have done my trailer test. What a load of cock that is.

I'll look into the tachos of a van. Would it require a special license? Would it still count as towing if something is on the back?

Cheers
