100,000 mile club.

Well crossed that landmark milage
It didn't fall to pieces infact it feels just the same as when I bought it. It truely is amazing how well engineered cars are these days, I remember 80's cars 100k really would be the nackers yard but now its really nothing for a modern car.
I guess I'm really getting the value out of the car now really driving down the depreciation cost per mile.
So I've two cars in this club both run as tight as a drum, I'd have to say for future purchases I may only buy cars with this milage at much cheaper prices then run them till they break.

Not convinced 80s cars didn't do ok with high mileage. Dad had a Bluebird that clocked over 300,000 miles in the 14 years he had it. (Had it brand new through to the knackers yard).
That has to be the best way of car ownership. You choose the exact options you want you know the full car history and over that age and milage the effective cost per mile is very good VFM. BeirutTaxi said:
With frequent oil changes and mechanical sympathy 100k isn't too much on a well designed modern engine.
The highest I've come across is a 530d with something like 600,000 miles on it. So far it's needed a new turbocharger and that's it. Impressive!
600k with nothing but routine standard services... Plus one turbo is very good going. He certainly got value out of that The highest I've come across is a 530d with something like 600,000 miles on it. So far it's needed a new turbocharger and that's it. Impressive!
I wonder if car makers will stop increasing durability else they will sell fewer as people and companies run them for much longer.

My car will tip over 144k next week She's getting old. But quicker
I think this is a very valid point. the_lone_wolf said:
2006 V70 D5 is at a shade under 92,000 now, and we'll be driving back from Croatia in a week, and doing the same trip in the new year
Won't quite hit it but we won't be far off
Might celebrate by getting it chipped...

A chipped car is under more stress it will not last as long as a standard version. From what I hear BMW (and others) dial in a large margin of tolerance.
When I mentioned it at the office one of the girls said she changes her car always at 30k... She did seem genuinely concerned about my milage and safety
Though a few weeks ago she had a ride in my car as commented at how nice it was - I didn't state milage nor did I remind her today but goes to show some mentality around cars

Superb. Though I'd honestly say your thermostat is not I the freshest condition looking at the temp gauge. I'd say it doesn't close fully.
The amount of times they open and close in 100k miles is mind boggling and they wear out. Worth changing its easy on your car too

My Mk4 Golf GTI snotter - 167,000
Mrs72's Seat Leon TDI - 128,000
Our T4 camper - 148,000
Her 1971 Beetle - only 74,000!
Apart from tyres/pads etc., the only things we've had to spend money on this year are a battery for the Golf and an exhaust for the Leon.

Filters
Air con regas
Pollen filter
Bi annual brake fluid change
Coolant flush every 2 years
Change engine mounts
Replace worn bushes
Change the shocks to refresh the handling and reduce stopping distance
Consider replacing drivers seat steering wheel pedal rubber gear knob and windscreen all consumables
It gets pricy quickly

Not only is your E91 almost twice as powerful as mine, you get more MPG than me. Something must be up with my 320D. Impressive figures from a 330D.
You say that today I had a loan car 420d 65 reg auto drove the exact same route to work (Eco pro there comfort way back). Didn't thrash it instead deliberately drive exactly the same style I drive my 535d. No traffic at all.
Achieved ..... 45mpg there in Eco pro and 48 mpg on the way back comfort. Now my F10 535d will get 42mpg there and 44/45mpg on the way back.
How just how inefficient are those tiddly engines. I have what 150+ bhp more weight and no Eco pro or stop start.
Just goes to show how good the big Diesels are v small. Plus when I spank mine it's actually amusingly quick the 420d is never quick. It's also a much nicer sounding unit in fact revving out the I6 under load gives a nice sound the I4 never has a nice sound.
But a 428i/435i - actually don't buy a 4 series the interior quality is shocking v a 5 series.
