classic car insurance for young drivers

I'm 18. I was thinking about getting either a classic car or older car for a bit of a project.

Problem is the car is under £1000 and the insurance is £1250 at the cheapest I could find. That's on a 1.0 70s Mini for example.

Any advice of how to get it cheaper or good insurance companies?

To be honest that sounds like about as cheap as you're going to get - classic insurance for young drivers is no longer the bargain it once was. If you love Minis then by all means go for it, but if you're just doing it to save money you'd be better off getting a more modern car as you won't have to worry about rust/breakdowns/safety etc etc

I have a modern everyday car but wanted this too,
if I could manage to get the insurance down to under £700 I would go for it

Depending on who you're insured with you may be able to add the mini to your current policy - that's what I've done with my cars and I'm the same age as you.

Hopefully, I'll ask them if it's possible to add a car
